I was just wondering if there would be any interest in making a 3D printed cover for all the gadgets some of us have around the rear view mirror. We have a rear view monitor (just the lcd, no cover), a 4G modem and a Q-free toll payment device.

It would be great to be able to house the rear view monitor above the rear view mirror. This is also a great place for the 4G modem. We also have a dash cam, but I am not sure there is any point covering that up. It also have a pretty wide angled lens.

I know there are rear view mirrors with monitors built in, but I want the original mirror in place. The idea would be to 3D print a plastic cover that looks good, positions everything right and fits well. Many modern cars have this. It would be nice to get rid of the cable clutter and have a cleaner look around the rear view mirror.

I am not sure how to attatch it to the windshield, but maybe a 3M magnet band could work. It should be detatchable. I am sure there are more and maybe better solutions. It would also be great if we could make it look as black from the outside as it does on some other cars.

I can also see from the forum that there are already a few people printing parts for their cars.

Hopefully this is interesting. If I (or sombody else) make a 3D model, everyone who wants to can make their own custome version of it and have it printed through a 3D printing hub (google it).

The most difficult part of the design would probably be to have it seemlessly extend from the roof light box and down onto the windshield. And color (or maybe that is not a problem).

I will come up with a simple drawing :)

To see how it might look, I folded some paper and taped it to the windshield.
I could be this is all ridiculous, but maybe it is worth a try.

I am sure it can be made prettier and smaller than my paper fold.
There is also a chance it could extend nicely from the straight edge of the "sunroof" plastic cover (our car does not have a sunroof).

The cover would be in the darkened area of the windshield... would it be obstructive?
