The good news is the hood won't rust (it's aluminum). The bad news is it will bug you every time you look at the car, and sometimes when you drive (if you can see it). Easy to fix that as well, though use of "touchup paint" requires some skill. Pearl S has a small dent in the hood from a rock but the paint seems to be fine. I had it covered with the 3M vinyl film. The film is slightly torn but the paint looks fine.

I had a brand new Toyota 4Runner die on me after about 11 km. Had two friends in the vehicle with me. They asked "now what?". My reply was "it's a computer controlled vehicle, all I have to do is shut it off and reboot the computer". It worked. I like to look like a genius, but of course I was just guessing. Dealer found a code but nothing wrong. It never recurred.

Your title is far from my experience.. I've owned many Toyota's new and used and they all have been exceptional. This carries over to my Lexus I've owned as well. There maybe minor issues but far from what you're reporting. I would also be upset if I had all the issues you encountered. From all the Toyotas I've owned though, combining all of them, I have not had the issues you listed...

My latest weekend outing really impressed me in a Toyota.. in my '06 Tacoma.. 160k miles on it, took it off roading to get to camp site, 90+ degree heat, then sat in traffic for 2 hours with AC on, no issues and ran like a champ.

Yes, you can bring it in. The car keeps a record and the dealer can see why it came on recently, even if it's not on at the moment. You can also bring it in to Autozone and they're check it free. Good luck.

I think you can have this kind of issue with any vehicle. With as much electronics as they all have on board its very possible for some random cosmic ray to come along and flips some bits in some RAM chip somewhere, and then things can get weird. 99% of the time the software/ECC will catch it and you'll never notice, but given enough time and random chance you're likely to get something like this once in a blue moon.

Buy a code reader it's a good investment make sure the one you buy dose ABS and Traction Control as well. Not all the scanners do them too.

Why would they charge you on a new car?! Does not sound right to me. I would ask to speak with the regional manager.

Aabndd a solution has been found.

Buyback. They had the car for two weeks and couldn't find the issues root. some signal crashing the system.

I purchased a 2010 Mazda in its place. I think I'll stick with cars that have the least amount of electronic problems.

My coworkers 2015 prius just had his breaks fail and smashed right into some one going 35 down hill.

Thanks for some who had actual answers and tried to help

and to you keyboard warriors being snarky (which also includes my other posts about odd noises)

I'll still float around the C area as that's what my wife has but clearly the standard has some kinks to work on.

    Good luck all!

Sorry, but my feces detector just pegged.
If this were true then I wouldn't have heard it here, but rather it would be on CNN and your 'friend' (and your alleged friend's alleged victim) would be hip deep in sniveling, bed wetting attorneys wanting to file seven-figure lawsuits.
99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 percent of these types of "brake" failures are a result of a short circuit between the steering wheel and the pedal(s).

Usually these "failures" have either a geriatric or a chemical component.

Toyota was beset by UA failures of this type when I first started making humble contributions to this forum, and even NASA could not find a credible fault with the car.
    I'm not a Prius shill.
I don't even own one, and if you want somebody to catalog the many shortcomings with the G3, I can fill a page with them, but bad brakes aren't going to be on that list!!
As a matter of fact, many people have logged over 150,000 miles on their OEM pads with this car.

    :)
    A pleasure!
