    1. There is no "low fuel warning light" other than the fuel gauge blinking one bar when your fuel level is so low that the combination meter ECU is getting desperate, while a text warning appears for a brief moment on the MFD display.
    2. If you do not add at least 3-4 gallons of fuel, the combination meter ECU may not recognize the change in fuel level.
    3. There is no need to have any repairs done, until you've had a chance to see whether any issues still remain after adding fuel and having the DTC cleared.

painful experience, but it's starting to make more sense. dealer told me i could see the bulletin POL 12-05, on the Toyota web site, but Toyota says that i cannot, that it is not public. Does anyone have a link to this bulletin? On a positive note, the Toyota customer service lady said to go ahead and pay for the diagnostic that the dealer insists on doing, and that Toyota will reimburse me.... i do like that

Amazing, please let me know how this all pans out. In my year's of ownership, I believe I have seen the last bar blinking once maybe twice.

This may seem like a crazy question but where do you buy your gasoline? Do you use Top Tier Fuel?

i've had the car from new, in 2009; i don't know what top tier means. Sounds like something i should know. i generally get gasoline at the nearest station when the car beeps and the last bar begins to blink. That's generally exxon or shell in town, but on the highway, it could be BP or kangaroo or almost any place. i usually avoid el cheapo (that really is a brand here) and i have not made a point of getting real gas (here, that's what people call the stations that do not add ethanol). Some gasoline is better than other?

Yes sir, there is a difference. Just google Top Tier gasoline. BP, Shell and Phillips 66 are the only fuels I use.

The better the fuel, the better the mileage.

i thought maybe you were new to it, because you were unfamiliar with the gas gauge. maybe you've never run it down to the last pip before, but if you do it again, get gas asap, because it's easy to forget, and the flashing pip isn't really an eye catcher.

no, i usually obey the blinking pip, and didn't this time as reported earlier. curse those NC taxes. The dealership says that the car is ready for pickup. the "inclination meter" went out of whack when the car ran out of fuel, and it has been reset, with good result. no charge, except for the diagnostic, which Toyota has said that they will cover, so it's all good except for a hatful of aggravation, and a deep feeling of shame.... thanks to everyone for your help and interest

Agreed. There is a procedure to do this, the only caveat is it must be done on level ground.

I have never heard of that sensor going out of whack. Not that it can't, I just haven't heard of it messing up.

I believe it's in the fuel tank. You really set it up and its good for a long while.

I reset mine probably 5 to 6 years ago. Right now, I'm at the two bar mark. Probably will fill it tomorrow. Believe it or not, the town to our South has gas wars
It's great to get Top Tier fuel at low cost prices.
