Low battery warning light on key (off dashboard).

    The key doesn't have a battery does it? Any idea what this means?

    Yup, mine went out a couple of months ago in my previous 2012 PIP, replaced them in both key fobs, not too hard to replace.

    Note that this is a generic item you can buy anywhere where household batteries are sold (grocery stores, pharmacies, etc). It is not an over-priced proprietary item that you can get only from your dealer.

    Thanks for info. I was up in Zion (long way from LA) when this happened. I stopped in a NAPA auto parts store, pried the key apart and asked the counterman about the battery. He looked at it and told me it didn't have a battery. Could have been disasterous.

    A dead battery in the key fob is inconvenient, but not disastrous. You can unlock the driver door with the mechanical key, and hold the fob with the dead battery up to the "start" button while pressing it to start the car.

    At least I have one left. After the two in use and that one dies I may have to buy a new car. Having to use the key to unlock the door all the time is so--20th Century.
