Hello, I am considering purchasing a used 2012 Prius v. The owner listed it as Prius v "Limited" which from what I can tell after extensive research (my first Prius!) doesn't exist. When I asked him what package it was he just said "it's the top of the line" (LOL). I saw the car and it has heated leather/softex seats, navigation, 17" wheels, backup camera, XM radio. Also saw the rearview mirror had homelink and a few other buttons. My question as far as package arises when I do a search for the VIN online and the result IDs it as a Prius v Two. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Would a dealer change all those accessories on a lesser package to sell it for more? How can I make sure what package is the car I'm buying? Any help is appreciated!!

Terminology varies between countries (Puerto Rico is between being a country and not) so there may be no relation to US levels, although it sounds like a Five.

In Canada, as an example, the models are base, luxury, and technology

    In Australia, there is a Prius v and a Prius v i-tech

Its a Five. If it has a JBL logo on the dash and a moon roof then it also has the ATP package.

Somebody could have added all those parts. See if it has 3 door keyless open when locked with the hatch being the third door. When locked and key in pocket try to open the hatch. Fives have that.

I always wondered. Do all Prius v cars come into the country and are then optioned (in the US to the standard 5 packages) or is that all done at the factory in Japan? How much customization is done here at the port of import? By the distributor? For example, does the car enter with a blank entertainment panel and then the radio gets installed by someone in the destination country? Are even the maps installed in Japan?

Most factory options are done at the factory except for parts that could be damaged during shipping (such as mudguards) or covered under PDI (like floor mats). If it's "port-installed" such as leather seats (where cloth is standard) or any of the stuff that GST or SET add on, those are done at port or at the dealer.

As for the radio, it depends on the car. For the Prius, it comes from the factory installed. (The Echo hatchback sold in Canada in 2004 and 2005 had the owner choose the type of radio to be installed pAM/FM/CD, AM/FM/Cass/CD, AM/FM/CD/MP3 or 6-disc CD Changer] so the radio was installed at the dealer)

I think there was early confusion on trim line titling. We have an early 2012 v that shows as a Two, but has all the Five (without ATP) features including self-leveling LED headlights, headlight washers, heated Softex seating, NAV with XM radio, backup cam, HomeLink mirror, SmartKey with all-door and hatch RKE, USB, 17" rims, etc. So it is a Five without portfolio.

Thanks for the input! Forgot to mention it also has foglights although I'm not sure about the self-leveling LEDs or headlight washers but Air_Boss from what you mention it seems I'm looking at one that matches your description so I'll take it's a Five. Thanks!

Are the washers the rectangles under the headlights? Or can these just be covers?

Correct. The washer switch is lower left panel, next to instrument light dimmer.
