UK owners now get upto 10 years/unlimited mileage HV battery warranty

    Not quite as comprehensive as the Californian 10year/150,000 mile warranty, but it's not far off.

    We normally get between 5 years/60,000 miles on the first 12 months of the gen3, to 8 years/100,000 miles on all the others.

    Now we get upto 10 years with unlimted mileage BUT limited to inspection every 10,000 miles or once a year. I guess if you bought a 7 year old Prius with 95,000 miles, and got it inspected every 10,000 miles you could run it to high mileage with HV battery warranty. Added peace of mind for second hand owners.

    It is conditional to paying a small fee of £39/$64 fee OR inclusive as part of a Toyota main dealer 10,000 mile service. You even get the option of a full battery report if wanted.

    I'm a happy bunny again.

    Brilliant. I hope the US offers the same.

    I view it as insurance: 390 UK pounds for a 10 year life policy. If the battery fails within 10 years the customer hit the jackpot :)

    I presume it is not simply coincidence that the G2 Prius has been on the roads 10 years, and now Toyota offers a 10 year insurance policy. I hope Toyota shares it's data.

    Anyway, I for one am not surprised at the offer. The fail rate of traction batteries by 10 years seems to be no more than 2% here on PC, so assuming $1500 Toyota cost that works out to be at most 1500/50 = $30 a car.

    Good to hear that Toyota GB is trying to boost confidence for those that are buying used. (Although to be honest, you'd think it's part of the regularly scheduled maintenance).

    So if I understand the words correctly, you get 1 year or 10,000 miles extension on the hybrid battery coverage and on the 10th year of the car's registration, it becomes unlimited mileage. That seems odd.

    It's a 9 year, 90,000 mile warranty, whichever comes first, on the battery, contingent on having the Hybrid Health Check done every year, until year 10. Then, if your battery fails and it's over 100,000 miles, you get it replaced?

    "A free Hybrid Health Check is now included with any Hybrid Service. But if you're not due a service for a while you can still benefit from the Hybrid Health Check at a cost of £39.
    This great value is combined with the added benefit of an extension to the warranty of your battery. With each Hybrid Health Check you will get up to 1 year or 10,000 miles extension (whichever comes soonest [ so if you do 20,000 miles are you not covered with the extension for 10,000 miles until the following year?]) on your hybrid battery cover which can be renewed up to the 10th anniversary of the car's registration with no limit on total mileage."(During the ten years of cover or for ever?)

    I read it that so long as you get it checked either every 10,000 miles or 12 months (which ever is the earlier) the warranty will continue in place, in the same way your normal warranty does/did. Otherwise you get a situation where if you cover 17,000 miles pa, you're covered for the first 10,000 miles in the year, you travel a further 7,000 without warranty until the 12 months and then get it back. That's a nonsense. It must be renewable every 10,000 miles (or 12 months if you cover less than that distance) upto 10 years. If you get service with Toyota you have no worry as it's done automatically. If you service it yourself or go elsewhere then you must pay £39. (why you'd want to go elsewhere is beyond me as my dealer will price match (y) ).

    I think it's a way of improving reputation of early gen3's which only got a 5 years/60,000 mile hybrid/hv battery warranty! That, along with reports of early HV battery failures over here (think of Socrates and his mates) could be causing a loss of confidence. I had heard from other taxi drivers that batteries were failing too. Perhaps a few angry drivers and the threads on here, might have got back to Toyota UK?

    They have. There was a post from one of the Euro members who posted similar the middle of last year. I looked into it and asked my dealers who said there was nothing like that here. Then a few months later; this.

    It is confusing, which is why I posed the question! After 10 years, you're warranted for life? if not, then really it's not unlimited mileage, is it?



    It is odd that the hybrid battery warranty is lower. It's not like the UK sees anything different from coastal US/Canada. It's just as humid and damp.

    Unlimited mileage within a 10 year period so long as you stick to the terms.

    Helps with peace of mind.

    Ohh, ok I think I get it. So if you happen to hit the 10,000 mile mark before the 1 year anniversary, you take it in, pay the £39 and keep driving and you're good til year 10?


    Not a bad deal methinks though it should've been part of the original warranty. I'm not sure what the driving habits are like in the UK and whether 10,000 miles is average.

    It is also included automatically as part of a Toyota dealer service. So keep your car serviced at a main dealer every 10,000 miles and it appears you get the warranty upto year 10.

    Main agents are always more expensive BUT many will price match and this extra warranty is peace of mind. You will recall I had my inverter replaced 10,000 miles out of warranty because I had the full Toyota service history.

    Hopefully this means you'll keep the Prius for a longer time. While a forum isn't the best place to do a survey, it really does seem odd that the Prii over in Europe seem to have a few more issues than the North America versions.

    Does that mean it wasn't meant to have been read? Was it an error? Just get a 404 Page not found error now.

    I bought a 2006 Prius from a used car dealer. It had a prior history of being regularly checked and serviced by Toyota, and had 75k miles when I bought it.
    After just 6 months the hybrid battery has started to fail, and when I took it in to get checked out, they have said it needs replacing.
    Since I am not the original owner, does the warranty still apply?
    It has been 9 years, so that's past the 8 year mark. But it's only done 85k miles. So the battery has failed before reaching 100k miles.
    What are my options?

    Dealer ran it through the diagnostics and said Hybrid motor needs replacing and would do it for 1300.
    Instead I have now opted to get it fixed in Reading by City Autos for a fraction of that cost.
