My daughter received a warning for her driver side headlamp being out. When we checked it, we found it working but with a pulsing. Later as we worked on the car for routine stuff the headlight went out completely.

We begin following the owners manual for replacement of the bulb, but the pictures in the manual seem different than what we found. Did the 2007 come with head light options? It's hard to get in the space and see, but what we saw was a bulb with a small transformer. A power or ground wire (braided outside wire) with a large plug was not pictured in the manual but came off easily.

We found that the large diameter black plastic cover was open. Being confused about the what was installed in the car and what the manual showed we decided to button it all back up. The large cable with the braided outside wire locked into place, we installed the cover and the light works perfect now with no pulsing. I think that the cable was not properly attached and caused the problem.

I am not sure if what's in the car is factory or after market. I assume these are HID lights, but have never come across them before. Any ideas on what 2007 came with from the factory? Thanks for the help

if you have fog lights, then you should have hid headlights. if no fogs, then you have halogen headlights

Yes, she has fog lights. I will have to look at the manual again, maybe it has a HID section in that she missed. Thank you! By the way, I used the 3M headlight polishing kit on one of the headlight lenses with great success.

I changed my HID lamps last year on my 2007 and found this helpful:

How to Change the HID Headlights on a 2007 Prius (Without Removing Bumper)

As you said, it's nearly impossible to see down there so the drawings helped me visualize what I was doing by feel.
I did use an inspection mirror and headlamp (camping type).
The headlight stopped working intermittently making me think it was a loose connector but turns out this is what they do when they are failing.
    Enjoy!

Thank you, I have asked her to keep an eye on things, my fear is the connector wasn't loose and the bulb is about to go out. The pulsing did go away when we are done.

The bulb was going bad, we replaced it in January! Now the passenger side has the same symptoms. It's tricky when you use them in the daytime mostly because you can't tell they are going out.
