Just installed 35w 5000K HID, and they look pretty blue during the first 10 to 15 seconds of the warm up time.

I'm wondering what color 35w 4300K HID bulbs look like when warming up? Any blue color, or do they start white, then get warmer yellowish when at operating temp?

I've heard that safety inspectors here in Hawaii often hold a white piece of paper in front of the lowbeams when determining whether to pass the headlights during the annual safety check.

I would definitely need to switch back to halogen before going in for a safety check if I keep the 5000K bulbs.

Well you can always run the lights on the way to the safety check place so that the capsules and ballasts are all ready to go. Mine will go to the correct colour almost immediately if the lights have been running for a while in the previous errand (but I don't know how long the lights have to stay off before they'll start off blue)

The norm is having to wait before the car is inspected.

I'll probably just switch in halogen bulbs pre inspection. Then switch back to HID bulbs post inspection. :D

    That works as well.

We've had the Coastal EV mod in the Gen 2 and the dealer never asked about it. (No annual safety inspections here, just emissions in which hybrids are exempted. There are safety inspections if registering an out-of-province vehicle, however)
