I just wanted to describe my installation of Garmin BC-30 wireless backup camera. My 2010 dose not have the factory screen, but does have Nuvi 2557 custom mounted along side the console and I didn't want to ad another screen. So when I saw the BC-30 advertized I felt it met my needs. I started researching on this site how to install it and there wasn't much relating to my type of installation.( didn't need to make any connections in the dash area). I wanted to have the camera come on onlywhen the car was in reverse and I couldn't find any appropriate wires in the back hatch door.
I located the left rear backup light bulb and spliced to the red wire. To get there I had to remove all the floor panels and the left side interior panels. I then removed most of the panels on the hatch door. I ran the spliced wire from the backup light bulb under the left interior panels and over to the long grommet to the hatch door and to an unused location on the hatch door. I mounted the camera assembly above the license plate. (You might want to mount your camera to the right of center so you have better access to the hatch release button). I had to drill though the door for a wire hole and screw holes. I then mounted the sending unit in a square opening in the door using the adhesive on the back of the sending unit. I then attached all the wires. The white wire (ground) on the transmitter went to one of the many black and white wires on the door assembly. The red wire went to the wire I spliced to the back up light and routed to the hatch door. I tested the set up and it worked. Then I replaced all the panels I had removed. I then adjusted the camera and guide lines per the Garmin video instructions.

I am sorry I don't have a video or even pictures, but I just wanted to let others that it can be done. Garmin recommends that the installation be done by a professional, but that is expensive. Anyone with average mechanical skills can do it . But, removing and reinstalling all of those panels is a royal PITA. The Garmin instructions in the box really suck, but the video instructions on their website are pretty good. My installation took 3-4 hours. Maybe some of you Prius gurus know of better wires located in the hatch doors. That would make the installation very simple. Hopefully this post will start a dialog simplifying the process.

One more point: Make sure your hands are very clean before you touch any of those interior panels. They soil easily but don't clean that easily 8^(

My wife is very happy with here new backup camera. I find navigating in reverse using the camera very difficult. Personally I would just as soon use my mirrors and look back in the direction I was going. The camera may prevent me from hitting something not viewable in the mirrors or hidden in the dead spot.
