I picked up a 2012 Prius Plug In Advanced this week, and took it in to see if the Entune system needed a firmware upgrade. The current version is 1.3.300035.

I did a bunch of searching on here, and it appears that the current Display Audio Entune version is 3.1 or 3.2. I understand the HDD model runs different software, but I can't figure out how to update it, or if the firmware updates via bluetooth. I suspect the update that added new apps is just apps and not the firmware, but I'm not sure.

I'm curious because I'm having intermittent strange bluetooth problems. I've tried searching all over, but it seems like there are more posts about the Non-HDD version than the HDD versions. The dealer said it has the latest firmware, but the maps are from 2011, so I'm guessing it might be behind.

    Thanks!

At least in the Advanced, at least pre-2015, there are these software components related to the audio/navigation system:

    1) The core system software for the head unit, which includes Bluetooth, Navigation engine and other low-level stuff.
Setup/General Settings/Software Update gives the version. This is updated over USB by the dealer.

    2) Grace Notes. This is related to music metadata. Setup/General Settings/Grace Notes Update, similarly updated by the dealer over USB.

    3) Entune applications. Go to the Info-Apps/Applications screen, and press the Toyota logo in the top left corner of the screen. This is updated over the air through using your smart phone's data connection.

    4) Map data. Version is on Info-Apps, then press Map Data button in upper right of screen. This is updated by the dealer by a very lengthy download over USB. They have to buy a per-download software key from some third party to unlock the thumb drive.

If you are lucky, the dealer might even have a clue about how this all works. I got a free Map Data update two years ago which the dealer wrote off to internal training..

Thanks. It's the core system software (#1) I'm trying to get upgraded. I've read elsewhere that some owners were mailed a red USB stick to do some updating, but it wasn't clear if that was for the Advanced JBL with HDD, or the non-HDD version.

I pulled the version number from the Toyota icon in the apps page. I specifically asked the dealer to do it today, and change the reverse beep to just one beep instead of repeatedly beeping. They did the reverse beep change, but said there was no update for Entune. They were nice enough to recommend I wait until the 2016 maps come out in October before I buy an upgrade from the 2011 maps I have onboard now.

    Thanks!

The sotware version given by the Toyota Icon is the Entune Apps version (Pandora, OpenTable, etc). On the Advanced, that is updated over the air through your phone. I think the USB stick that some folks were talking about is the Entune Apps update for the Base (Display Audio) system.

The core software version is on the "Software Upgrade" button in the Settings/General Settings screen. It will contain the version of the Navigation and Bluetooth software. The Bluetooth version will look something like 21.210.

Just a note that on the App Store the Toyota engine update is available as of 08/20/15 version 1.16.40, 26.2

The Advanced model's current firmware is 1.3.300035. Unlike base models it was updated over-the-air via the Entune phone app (1.16.403.11).

After updating I had to clear the Prius Plugin from my iPhone 6 Bluetooth (forget this device) and delete the iPhone 6 from the car's Bluetooth. Then it took several attempts to re-pair the iPhone to the Prius. One the pairing took all was working well.

If you are having Bluetooth issues, try deleting and re-pairing, it worked for me. You'll need to reset any preferences on both iPhone and car after your done.
