If U just upgrade to SW 3.1.0, it didn't fix this issue.
It sure fix the auto play for Apple devices.

I use several USB flash drives (not mechanical SATA drives) that I use regularly without problem to listen to old time radio shows in the stock Entune Radio/GPS unit in my 2012 Prius C Three. The USB drives I'm using are as follows: PNY 32GB, SanDisk 16GB, SanDisk 32GB, and another SanDisk 32GB. No problems with USB latency when I first start the car -- in fact, the USB drive is ready well before the Bluetooth connection to my phone is ready to receive audio commands.

I suspect that the latency problems ThatTallGuy is having with his 250GB SATA drive relate to the mechanics of the SATA drive itself. I don't really know though, so I won't push that point. All I would suggest is that he try a flash drive -- even a large one -- rather than a mechanical drive, and see if that helps any. do not know.

One of ThatTallGuy's (and other posters') issues that I believe I can address relates to folder organization/finding your stuff on your drive. I think it comes down to how you tag your MP3 files. I use a program called ID3 Editor on Mac OS X, although there are plenty of MP3 editors out there for Windows and Linux. I'm pretty OCD about how I do MP3 tagging on my audio files before loading them onto the USB drives. Specifically, when I'm assigning tags to MP3 files, I make sure to specify the four most important tags: track title, artist name, album name, and genre. Typically, I also specify the year and track number, but that's just me. The Toyota Entune unit has no problem reading ID3 v2 tags, and seems to prefer ID3 v2 tags over ID3 v1 tags. When you tag your files properly, the Entune unit lets you browse by Artist, Album, and Genre, in addition to Title. Works great for me.

    Hope this helps.

I found out that my wife wasn't listening to the music at all. When she drives around in the Boston area,
she only listens to one of the local AM (1030?) stations for traffic reports and news..

Last summer, I pulled the USB storage, deleted the songs and now use it to save pictures and videos from my astronomy rig..
So far, she hasn't noticed it's missing..

I'd assume the OP isn't paying attention anymore since he posted 3yrs ago, but I put in a 32gb micro sd card in a usb converter for $15 total from frys. That covered me for my mp3 issues. May be considerably cheaper than a new headunit for anyone else reading.
The Misses likes that she can put her "music" on the flash drive anytime she wants to as well. I'm not sure I call One Direction music though.
