    A Plugin ?!? Wait . . . That's insane. In fact, that's Ludicrous
    ;)
Tesla Model S P85D Breaks the Consumer Reports Ratings System

A surprise? CR car testers are often slanted to the gear head mentality - so it was unusual to see they rated it above their scale of a perfect 100.

Aside from the former Top Gear presenters and luxury super car makers, does anyone not like the Tesla?

Somehow Tesla has to work into their marketing "It goes to 11". Maybe this will be the next level after "maximum plaid".

Seriously, love or hate CR, this is a significant event for alternative fueled transportation in general and Tesla in particular.

Sure flies in the face of Toyota's "anti-plugin" campaign.
Heck - apart from the high priced new ones - I've seen completed model S sales listings on ebay for as low as $51k. That's in the ballpark of similar luxury used cars.

I am pleased Tesla is making a quality American car. But why CR is focus on a expensive car like that is a little funny to me.

It really shouldn't cause you to wonder. CR has done reviews of MB & Range Rover, and they're fully optioned rides cost even more. Of course the efficiency is hardly on par with the Model S. I'm guessing that's why they were so gaga about it.

The price-performance of the Tesla makes it a bargan in the high-end, luxury market. In effect, BMW, Mercedes, and Cadillac see each Tesla as a lost sale. You can spend more and get less.

There's really not much to dislike about a Tesla, except cargo room, and the price

um - most people don't mind tons of cargo room .... you know - like part of a kindergarten class in the front trunk ....

    tesla-model-s-kindergarten-class-frunk.jpg

...... then, after tossing 900Lbs if laminate in the back - still having room for maybe 2 or 3 sacks if groceries ...

    tesla laminate.PNG

...... if that much room creeps folks out, better stick with the less roomy gen1 Insight. No need to be concered about cargo room in that model.
    . . . or did I misunderstand the concern
    ;)

It should be one heck of a tow vehicle.

For those that want to use it as a delivery van or to tow the boat they don't have up the mountain they don't live by ....
the model X is coming in a couple of months.

I think most are looking forward to the smaller less expensive model III.

You'll need to look at the F-150 or silverado if you want a truck bed. No hybrid or plug-in there yet (or not anymore for the silverado).

Tesla may be the only car left for sale in ten years

Toyota will probably buy it and turn it into a FCV. Afterall, no one wants plug-ins. ;)

GM won't be able to afford Tesla in ten years:p

Oh I am sure there will be others.
Nissan with the Leaf, GM with the Bolt and Volt.
BMW will settle on a strategy and expand their "I" series.
And Toyota will be dissing plugins and expand hybrid experiments to more parts of California:whistle:

Even looking ahead as far as I can, I just don't see Toyota's current vision working. However, Toyota remains committed to the hybrids, despite their FCV investments. I do agree with many on this forum though about Toyota and their plug ins. It's embarrassing to see a company like Tesla so very far ahead of them. Another thought comes up when discussing EV's and the like. While Tesla and others produce some sough-after cars that are, well cars that people enjoy driving, they still drone along in slow gear.

No, not everyone wants, or can afford a fast car like that Tesla. But I assume Tesla will not ignore the larger markets, and eventually produce cars for the masses.

I still have faith Toyota will move back into the plugin market.
They certainly have the capability to do so, I'd just like to see them get into the mix now, rather than later.
