Navigation Screen Too Dim at Night

    Since having the latest entune update at the dealer, my GPS screen now automatically dims too much when the ambient light is lower in the evening. Tried messing around with the contrast and brightness controls and the rotary dimmer control on the left side of the dash. Could not get the brightness to be like it was before the update. Street names are pretty much illegible at night. If I raise the brightness at night to the point where I can read the street names, the entire screen is super bright on the eyes.

    Took the car to the dealer and they surprisingly agreed this is abnormal. Have an appointment next week to have this problem investigated. Hoping for the best.

    Anyone else share this problem?

    I have a 2015 persona and have noticed this as well at night. Daytime is fine just night settings.

    On a v3, if I want to read the street names easily I put it in 3D heading mode rather than 2D (top left icon). In 3D mode you get names in boxes instead of laid over the street. Zoom level effects the number of streets shown in a small area. Of course, your v5 has a different system.

    Ok....here's the follow-up to my situation.

    Brought car to dealership after 5PM so that the service adviser could see the problem himself. Surprisingly, he agreed with me. Brought car in the next day for techs to investigate. Got a call in the afternoon saying nothing is wrong. Went to pick up car. Advisor said techs compared GPS screen to another car and screens were the same. He even showed me another car and the problem was indeed identical. Oddly, the entune version was older than mine. So I told advisor I would take it up with corporate. He quickly stated that once a week, Toyota corporate techs come to the dealership to investigate issues like these. So I made an appointment. This time, they would provide a rental car. Long story short, here's what my final paperwork states:

    "DSPM + FTS inspected display concern. Brightness adjustment was set to a higher level. Vurrently display is operating as designed when lights turn on. Factory declines assistance at this time. No manufacturer defect noted."

    I checked system settings, contrast is at lowest setting and brightness is at highest setting with day/night set to automatic.

    So the GPS screen is still washed out....street names almost impossible to read. Very disappointed in the outcome. My only hope may be a Garmin!

    By the way, "DSPM" is Toyota Motor Sales District Service Parts Manager"....not sure about FTS.

    My 2103 v five has the same problem with the nav screen at night. The only work around I have found is to set the screen with auto off and use daytime mode but the it is to bright but at least usable.

    ^^^This was my solution as well.

    Just set it to daytime mode at all times. Works fine now at night.

    Same on my 2015 Four LB...crap Nav/Stereo...but I got spoiled. :rolleyes:

    We just noticed that if you take the scroll wheel out of the "locked" bright mode and put it into adjustable mode at night the Nav screen inverts to black, it's easier on the eyes for sure, but the most annoying thing about it the focus ring for location is black too, barely able to see it, they should have had it change color to a lighter or white ring so you can more easily see the location you're at if you're trying to follow a route. Is there any solution or updates that need to be done to alter this? Switching it back to brightest mode on the scroll wheel "locked" ruins one's night vision while driving. Such a dilemma to deal with. I wouldn't mind having some optional USER controls to be able to change these settings so we can customize them to our liking.

    Actually, I experimented with this feature just last night. If you scroll the brightness wheel out of the locked "day mode" while it's dark outside, it will dim your lighting a bit and switch the nav background to a dark charcoal color. Now, at this point, go to your General Settings / Contrast & Brightness and a new check box at the bottom will appear labeled "Day mode". If you click it, your nav screen background will switch back to a lighter color but won't be as intense as pure "day mode".

    I actually found that is my sweet spot when driving at night. It works well!
