see my edit on what he said.
i'd have to take a weeks vacation. i'll listen to the rest to see if there's anything important. honestly, this is a big job, and taking things apart is a lot easier and quicker than putting them together. if you don't want to tackle it, maybe a local mechanic?

    Hi Freedom,
my MFD was blank sometime ago started pulling the dash apart looking for loose connections no problems found decided to phone dealership very unhelpfull (bring your vehicle in and youll be up for so much even before diagnosis) decided to disconnect small AUX battery and reconnected after 5 mins this worked MFD fully functioning. maybe a sign this AUX battery is close to its use by.
    hope this helps you.
    good luck.

    will.

Hey Freedom, did you end up checking the fuse? If the dealership said that they've never seen this issue I doubt even they checked the fuse... didn't see any reply from you other than "where is the fuse located?" So if you did, sorry for the repeat...

The fuse box, with the fuse for the MFD is located on the drivers side, above the foot well, under the dash, you can get to it without any tools. Its fuse #24 if I remember correctly... the easiest way to get to the fuse box, is to move the drivers seat all the way back, lay down on your back on the floor board and look up under the dash.

I know because I had the same issue about two years ago. you can use a mini-fuse but really it takes an ultra mini fuse.

I did see where the 12v battery being low may be the issue. I replaced that 2 years back, so that should be fine. The last time it 'went,' it was as if the car was possessed, it was doing all sorts of weird stuff. This go around, no issues, not even with the MFD until the day it did not work. I will poke around here on P. Chat to see where that battery is located, see if that is something I can tackle as well.

Also, I was in to the dealership, $104 diagnosis is an internal failure. Now, does that mean THEY tested my 12 v? Um, do not know. I think I will give them a call in the morning on that point!

I did not check the fuse, another good point. No one had responded and I forgot. I DID ask at the dealer that they check if this is 'just a fuse.' Did that info get relayed from the check in person to the actual mechanic out back? do not know. I'd like to check the fuse just for my own amusement; seems a heck of lot easier than removing the MFD!

Hmmm, so this could end up being like the Clazzio seat covers, eh? The Pro puts the whole set on in 20 minutes; took me AND a neighbor a total of 8 or more hours, spread over 2 days. Must think on that!

I DID IT! OMGOSH!! I have the MFD out and in the house, and the car is back together to use! Now I just need to package it up to mail it out on Monday.

It was not a 2 minute thing, but definitely less than 10 minutes! Only reason was I had to stop and come inside to watch the vid in the middle, and I had to go find an extender for the rachet wrench; needed that for the right side of the MFD. In fact could not use the extender for the left side.

WOO HOO, I am so excited I did this myself! Thank you everyone for pushing me to do this.

I've just phoned the dealer to cancel the parts order. They have to call me back as they don't know how to do it and they want to see if there is a restocking fee.

YIPPEE! If I was younger I'd jump up and click my heels ha ha haaa

Good for you. Hopefully the dealer parts order can be cancelled without too much drama or cost to you.

Goodness, this dealership is making me pause and wonder about them!

I had a call back from the initial contact person in Service, same one who assisted me yesterday morning. The Service Supervisor is not working today and no one has any idea how to cancel an order. So he will talk to the supervisor on Monday and then let me know. He thinks the Supervisor has to call California to cancel the order.

Received my MFD back in yesterday's mail, and had it back in the car in about 2 minutes. I'd kept all the tools handy in a bag in the car. Quick and easy. Most important: IT WORKS! So I removed it on a Saturday, shipped it off Monday morning, and had it back the following Monday. FAST turn around!

Thank you all for the referral and for pushing me to do the repair this way.

Quick follow up: never heard back from the dealership, so I guess they cancelled the order for a refurbished unit, and there was no restocking fee.
