Featured 2016 PRIUS ... I love it

    You know, it's funny how we leap to impressions, then, after awhile, reality smartens us up. When I first sat in the GIII at the Edmonton car show, it felt "cramped", due to the "flying bridge". Now that I sit in it every day, it's not cramped at all.

    One point I would like to make, however, is that the "shifter" is used very little, and -could- be placed back on the dash, freeing up some room on the console. We don't drive Prius like a rowboat! There are no gears to select, just go and which direction (forward or back). ;)

    Yes, Toyota should do one of two things: A). Copy Lincoln and put a row of gear position buttons in a P-R-N-D-B configuration. Or
    B). Copy Chrysler-Dodge and put a knob with PRNDB with an orange indicator to be sure to show which position you are in.

    We really don't need a big "shifter" anymore. Besides, it's not mechanically connected to the transmission at all. It's all electrical anyway. JTM

    I hope you're right,but looking at the pictures in that airplane it doesn't seem like it .
    On the other hand though, maybe these pictures aren't spy shots after all and Toyota is behind them .
    In that case they probably wouldn't want to give every single secret away !

    should've put the shifter on top of the dash. oh well, too late now.

    I think it looks nice. I was dismayed from the cut-off spy shots, but it looks like the functional and purpose-built car we all love.

    I will admit I was expecting more. Something bolder. Toyota reportedly delayed this car to revamp its exterior. The hope was to capture the casual market they already have in Japan and the US. The exaggerated headlights, taillights, and lines look nice, but I was expecting something distinctly Prius (the iconic silhouette), but radical. This looks predictable for 2015 Toyota.

    The important topic will be the fuel economy. I'm crossing my fingers for 55 city/hwy! I'm also hoping it has all the storage and practicality my wonderful 2005 Prius has. Can't wait to learn more on September 8th.

    I'm sorry but I was wrong! I thought Toyota had managed to achieve the worst it could in the ugliness stakes with previous iterations of the Prius but it seems they have scaled new heights with this one! That is the ugliest shaped car I have ever set eyes on. :( Toyota need to get themselves a new design team... Very disappointing :(

    I am purely on about appearance... Low aerodynamic drag does not have to equal "ugly" (as in Prius "ugly") in my opinion...

    Mirai "Mau" is due a little to function. It has to have an awful lot of air for the compressor and fuel cells. For the PiP and Prius we would want it to be more closed off for better efficiency in the winter.

    And where did you get the numbers?

    Even the larger V60 sold in the U.S. gets better mileage (25/37mpg EPA rated) and starts at US$35,950. This is the V40 which will be cheaper and uses a smaller engine (not to mention, it's not sold in the US... yet).

    I would estimate an EPA rating of 40mpg highway for the gasoline engine (not counting the 120hp diesel that'll probably get 50mpg on the highway. It's rated at 71mpg on the European cycle).

    I knew it needed the air for the fuel stack. But, you would think Toyota could make the opening look better. Put a grille or put it below the bumper a la Avanti ( yes, over fifty years ago they hid the grille below the bumper).

    I understand that this is suppose to appeal to the Japanese market. It's just way out in left field. Would I buy one? If the price comes to Prius level, sure.
