2002 prius - battery block 8 becomes weak - which cell?

Thanks. Did you notice a decrease in how far the car could travel from a "full" state of charge to battery depletion?

 

If you want to measure battery-only operation, do it in "R". Alternatively, run out of gas and continue driving. However, such ad hoc metrics have no real utility.

The shop manual has a diagnostic test that involves using a forced charge followed by an "R" to sweep from maximum to minimum SOC. But to make any sense, you'll need miniVCI/Scanguage/Graham scanner. Then you can measure the voltages and currents to get some engineering units.

There is one approach that makes sense. At the bottom of a tall hill, do a forced charge until the engine shuts down. Then in "R", back up the hill and measure the altitude change. The change in altitude and mass of the car gives the amount of energy used from the battery to climb the hill. I've gone up ~100 ft before the cop showed up and I decided to drive home rather than get into a technical discussion explaining why I was backing up a hill in reverse to measure traction battery capacity.
