Depends on the year. Earlier(first gen?) Vibes had less reported problems to CR than the Matrix. Seeing how these, and other Toyota/Chevy twins were built at the same plant by the same people with the same parts, it is absurd what the Toyota premium is on used models. Specially when you get into the older Prizm/Corollas.

um, you left out several additional costs that the Tesla won't suffer during that 150k miles - such as oil changes - spark plugs - plug wires - oil filters - air filters - tune ups - smog checks - tyranny fluid etc etc ...

    But
Best of all - and back on point with your concern about how long it takes for the poor (faster) Nissan - which according to you, has to go through its little chicken dance process, in order to blow the doors off the (non-American) Dodge gas guzzler. OK, I'll bite ...

Put the Tesla - the Nissan - & the Dodge all on the 0-60mph starting line - let all 3 sit over night in the 40 degree farinheight nighttime temps ... flip the green light on & let me know which TWO just got their lunches eaten by the Victor ... because after all ... we don't wana give any kind of special procedural (warmup) advantage to any of the 3 ... right?
    ;)

Times are moving on . . . The model S has been upgraded from insane mode (3 seconds) to ludicrous mode (2.8 seconds)
baahhhh !! What - that probably only translates out to maybe Tesla winning by a few car lengths.

Per Car and Driver on the Porsche 918 Coupe....

"Flush as we are with nutty performance cars at the moment, we should remember that automobiles as quick as the Porsche 918 don’t come along too often. In 2008, the quickest (and fastest) production car we had ever tested was the Bugatti Veyron 16.4. It could hit 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and burn the quarter-mile in 10.1 ticks. The Porsche 918 crushes the original million-dollar car with a 2.2-second sprint to 60 mph and a 9.8-second quarter-mile time. To put that in perspective, 0.3 second is about how long it takes you to blink. As acceleration times shrink, their deltas become increasingly larger percentage gains, so the 918’s third-of-a-second edge over the Veyron represents an astounding achievement."

(i must be talking to myself) Ok - but ... This is not referencing 2 seaters, like porsches or bugattis or mcclarens ... or motorcycles .... or for that matter nitrous ad-on's ... or rocket cars ... or funny cars ... did i miss anything?
    ;)
It's about full sized rides. You can read my 918's link under porsche hybrids . . . snip . . . wait - just read this - it's pretty good.
    EDIT
    interesting read on Jalopnick regarding the 918's fast 0-60 time. Turns out that several low production exotic super cars are actually gaming the system - so much so, that their rolling starts like 5-60 times are slower than their 0-60 times;
Porsche 918 Proves 0-60 Times Are Total Bullshit
So ... as they point out ... with their purposefully designed programming - any driver can do perfect runs .... even while drinking a coke

    That's too funny ....
Still it makes the full sized Tesla acceleration accomplishment that much more stunning imo.

There's a pretty entertaining video of the Tesla versus Hellcat. These are the closest apples to apples high powered cars that are actually four door sedans.

here - the "if only" seems to be "if" the quarter mile track would have been just a teeny weeny bit longer ... only that wouldn't be a quarter mile
    ;)

Does it really matter how fast these cars go? Anything under 5.0 secs is scary fast and if you don't know how to drive a fast car, four door or two door, it is very likely that you will find yourself in a body shop real soon.

to those of us who drive the Prius, of course not. But since this is the Tesla subform, which compares apples to apples, those comparisons are high-powered luxury sedans. For those who are interested in high powered luxury sedans - it apparently is important. Surprise surprise. What makes the Model S set apart from similar high-powered luxury sedans, since the element of crash probability is raised, the Tesla is also the safest car in the world. Take for example this head on collision between Honda accord (5 star crash rating) vs model S - Laguna Canyon, not too far from us. Both occupants instantly killed in the Honda, whereas Tesla driver walked away.

So it's a win-win for Tesla (this was caused by a 3rd car who fled the scene btw) fastest AND safest .

That was a very sad story.

The Accord appears to be an older model, so not sure on the 5 star rating.

Tesla has designed a terrific car, and safe as well. Let's hope the Model X can be the same type of car with safety and quality as its big brother.

It appears the quickest crossover - SUT has changed also ... I'm just not sure who was previously holding the crown, prior to Tesla stat's coming out that the X can scoot from 0 to 60 in just 3.2 seconds.

It may be BMW X5 M class at 4.0 seconds flat.
