Child car seats in Prius 2

    Haven't been on here in a couple of years since we bought our 2012 C. We found out we were having our first child about 6 months after buying the small "c", we have made it work, but it has been cramped for space. Now we have our 2nd child on the way and need to upgrade to a bigger vehicle. We have been looking at a Blizzard Pearl Prius 2. Is there anyone around my size (6'4" 260lbs) that have a liftback and 2 child seats? I'm wondering if we will have any issues getting my big butt in there with multiple child seats.

    Will you need to put a rear facing seat behind the driver's seat? If yes, then you might have a problem. If you have one rear facing and one forward facing seat, then you are probably ok.

    It's best to bring any car seats you will be using when you look at the prospective car.

    We might be forward facing by April when we have our newborn, our 1st child will be just over 2 years old at that time.

    And yes, I'd love to get down there and test fit, but I have been working long hours and when I do have time, I don't have the ambition

    Hope to have more room than the C in the back seats.

    We have a 2010 Prius 2. A couple of months ago our daughter put one of our grandkids' Britax car seats in our back seat front facing behind the driver's seat. It worked OK and I was able to fully put the seat all the way back. I'm 6' 3". A rear facing seat needs more room, so you will probably want to put the new child's seat behind the passenger seat. You might want to test the car seat in a Prius V to see if they have any more room.

    By the way, we highly recommend the Britax child seats.

    Most people automatically purchase larger cars. But look at it this way: you can purchase 2 new car seats at $250 each that fit better in your C. I'm using a high number here to prove my point.

    I'm willing to bet it will cost you a whole lot more to buy a new lift back. And before you start on strollers and baby stuff. Same thing, new umbrella style baby stroller is $100 for a good one. Upgrading to a larger car will cost thousands.

    Mbrubaker, thanks for the insight.

    mmmodem, I understand your way of thinking, but it's just all around time to upgrade from the C. We took the C to Babies r Us and test fit about 8 different car seats and picked a Chicco seat that was considered one of the most compact seats available, even with that small seat being behind the passenger, that seat has to be about half way forward and is uncomfortable for the wife...

    Also trying to stay away from the added cost of getting a "V"

    i have a 14' prius 2, and am 6'5 and we have a forward facing car seat behind my seat, and if it's front facing you'll be fine, rear facing, will def be tight. As far as two car seats in the back, should be plenty of space for it...(my older one is in a booster now)...hope that helps

    For everyone's information, the Prius V has less legroom than the Prius Liftback. They sacrificed some rear seat legroom for more trunk space.

    haha yeah it would be nice to lower the seat rails a bit so I look less ogre ish...hahah
