I have a 2011 Gen3. It's driving perfectly. Its charging when being driven by the ICE as normal. Its also charging by regen braking. However, when the car is 'stationary' with full EV battery- and when it looses its charge with lights, fans etc, it cuts out. When the battery indicator drops to the normal 2 bars, the engine falls back to 'ignition on' mode (i.e the dash lights illuminate and the steering goes heavy. When you reboot it, the car starts as normal???

Anyone encounter this problem and resolve it??? The Auto electrician looked at is and is puzzled

First of all, just to clarify: When you say "when the car is 'stationary'", do you mean in ready mode, with the "READY" light lit up on the dashboard, and ready to drive just by shifting to "D"?

While we wait to find out what position the gear selector is in:
In N it will never charge, moving or not.
In D, R, or P, when stationary, it should charge when the engine is running.

Sounds like the car is reverting to the mode where you've pushed the start button twice without foot on the brake? Power steering disabled?

Not sure what you been by "normal 2 bars", 2 bars on the battery indicator means the battery is as low as the car will let it go, and it will start up the engine.

Yes, it drops to two bars, then the engine will not cut back in to charge it back up (when the car is stationary)

i think dropping to two bars and engine not coming on until you hit the go pedal may be normal.

Not true - With the car in READY and HV battery at two bars, the ICE will eventually start to bump up the HV battery to at least three bars regardless of whether or not the go pedal is depressed. Trust me, sitting (as in not moving at all with accessories such as A/C running) in NYC traffic this is the car's modus operandi.

Welcome, thinking there should be codes that a toyota dealer could read if indeed, it's in ready, and, yes... the 12v is good.

A little confusing. Along with what everyone else has said, I think a trip to the dealer to get codes read is in order. Something is causing the vehicle to revert to a "foot off brake press start" mode with the host of dash lights illuminated and the electric steering disabled. I don't know what could cause that, coming from the "ready" mode. Perhaps some rodent damage in the wiring or problems in the inverter.
