Tony, I came late to the gen 3 parade. How was the reaction then, as mixed?

Everybody hating this vehicle has to keep in mind that Japan is it's home country, not the US and neither Europe, and I am pretty sure the Japanese customers didn't want it to look as boring as a VW Golf looks and neither did I !
There are so many lookalikes out there that is is really refreshing seeing something new and bold .
The name "Prius" says everything,it's not ment to look like any other car out there, its ment to stand out of the crowd and at the same time look attractive and I think Toyota did a pretty good Job this time !

I remember the Very First time I saw the 2nd Gen Prius, It was unlike any other car I had seen before, and I thought, "Wow, that looks like a Space Ship!" After owning a 3rd Gen for Nearly 6 Years, I'm happy that the new Prius still looks like nothing else on the road.

I think my first impression of the Gen II was a Princess phone. I have a white one. I'm waiting to see what the Gen IV looks like in person. I have more concerns about the shapes of the lens covers (how durable) and the trim levels/package combos. I'll be interested more in the results of test reports than what it looks like. I do agree that the last two generations have had a bit too much 'artiste' and not enough daily driver input.

I didn't, had a look. Seems like they're pretty much all pink?

I get the analogy tho, kinda edgy, but rounded. And a friendly look.

I was thinking more along the lines of the 2nd Gen Princess Phone... But I'm probably a little bit younger...

Bad, bad, bad: quoting myself. Anyway, thinking about friendly:

Recall in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, earth's status starts out as "harmless", but at the end is up (or down?) graded to "mostly harmless".

At some point in life the exterior is not that important. After choosing the car for its economics, its the comfort of the driver's seat, the look of the instrument panel, and the ergonomics of the controls that are important to me. I'm looking forward to buying one a few years from now, maybe a used 2018.

Tony.. Tony, Tony?! I understand how could you feel that way, but aren't you being judgemental in painting everyone as a "Prius hater"? Just because they being judgemental to Gen4?

If people really hated Prius, they wouldn't come here to complain. They would have gone to sites which hate Prius. And can you really call someone a hater, if he/she owns one, no, wait two Prii?.

Not sure about others, but it is not the hate but utterly disappointment. Toyota took a great car and ran it into ground, because they needed more cowbell to make it flushy at expense of function, style and practicality.

If it sells to them it is great if doesn't they can always come here, read and figure out what went wrong. Frankly I am fed up them treating us Prius enthusiasts according to PT Barnum's sayings: " noone ever lost money by underestimating taste of american public" and "there is a sucker born every minute".

If your young man kept it for himself it is his choice, I am not young and I waited long enough.. for this???

    Gen4 looks good to me.
I just think they tried for more a modern sedan look and got it by moving the HV batt under the seat. I think it also has somewhat artistic eye appeal for Japan audience, which gives it a unique look for America. Also some of the unique look is aerodynamics per front air dam per Mirai.

Ugh I think rear windows get smaller, hopefully not because EPA counts as cargo space anything below the window line up to the front seats.

It looks like Gen4 is more appealing to Gen2 than to Gen3 owners. I suspect it could be due to hump relocation forward?

Well I like the Gen2 but I think they are trying to appeal to the sedan look audience. My wife would get a sedan every day, but that's because she wants a real trunk for security purposes.

In a sense I agree with people who call the ones choosing style over function shallow. But here is the point I would never buy a car which looks nice but does nothing for function (sorry Fiat 500) but then again if car doesn't look good I'm not even gonna look at it. And there are many people like that. When Hyundai redesigned Sonata their sales doubled. Will Gen4 follow the suite?

Or just cus you've hunkered down, skipped one LONG generation.

4th gen acceptance is gonna impact all generation owners. I'm more dismayed than derisive, and frustrated with the design process, that goes under wraps, then drops this cuckoo bird.
