Is charging cable covered by original factory warranty?

I have a 2014 PIP Advanced with Tech Package. I purchased the car in April of 2014 so I am still under the original two year 'factory warranty'. Anyway, the plug on my charging cable has come loose and either needs to be fixed or replaced.

I looked at the Toyota website and it was moot on the warranty coverage of 'accessories'. Not sure that this is one since it was delivered with the car. Anyway, does anyone know for sure and is there any documentation on this?

I am taking the car in next for the 20,000 mile service and I want to be armed just in case.

    Thanks,

    Phil

most have had no pushback from the dealers, but i haven't seen any specific wording. is it defective, or abuse?

I think something broke inside the power plug (the 110V plug). The ground is loose. The unit still works just fine but it is weird that the ground 'wiggles' around. I am pretty careful with the unit and use it daily. I noticed this one day when I went to plug it in. I have no idea how this may have happened but I am assuming that something wore out or broke inside the 110V plug. I did think about taking it apart to take a look but it uses very unusual screws (some kind of triangular affair) and I decided that if it was under warranty, I wouldn't bother.

absolutely. you can always cut it off if you have to. do you take the weight off of it by supporting the brick when charging?

Absolutely...the unit is connected via a heavy duty terminal strip that is on the floor...and that is where the unit remains. No stress at all.

I will see what Toyota has to say when I take the car in...I prefer not to cut it off...;)

Worst case, I figure that they will try and call the charging cable an 'accessory'. In preparation for the visit to the dealer, I found this on the Toyota website:

For accessories purchased at the time of the new vehicle purchase, the Toyota Accessory Warranty coverage is in effect for 36 months/36,000 miles from the vehicle's in-service date, which is the same coverage as the Toyota New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Since it came with the car, it should be covered.

    Will let everyone know.

Went to Toyota dealer for the 20,000 mile service. At the end of the service, they told me that they were not allowed to work on the charging cable and according ot the TSB, it was to be returned to Toyota and they got me a new one (over $1,100 list) under warranty with no hassle at all.

    Case closed.
