Overall, I think the dialog here has been healthy, with some sarcasim. I am glad we have a place to talk about the 2016 model. I understand where some are being called out as haters. I hope I am not considered one of them. I was just disappointed with the new look. I could get use to it, but yes, change is inevible, and some will like the new look, some won't. Not liking the new look will not cause me to leave the Prius family. Toyota is at the forefront of all the others, which is one of the reasons I purchased mine.

For several years, I was the President of a Toastmasters club. We used to remind each other that we provide feedback because we care. If we didn't care, we wouldn't take the time to provide the feedback. I believe this is what you are trying to say.

However, in Toastmasters, the feedback we provided to our members were personal and private between the provider and the receiver. Because, well, telling me what Susan did wrong doesn't help anyone any more than telling Priuschat what you don't like about the Prius doesn't do any good. Do you think we are going to change the shape of the car? Do you think anyone can make such changes between now and production, even if they wanted to? Specifically, which Priuschat member should start working on those changes? If you are currently thinking about Prius Team, then send them a private message spelling out all your suggestions. I'm sure they would love to hear from you.

In Toastmasters, we had a desire to tell the individual how they can improve their personal speaking skills.
Priuschat was originally a group of Prius owners who hung around with the intentions of helping other owners by answering their questions.
What, exactly, are your intentions when you post here?

You're right. I'm not thrilled with the pictures I've seen of the gen 4. But, I've felt that way about other cars in the past and changed my mind after driving it. It's not bad enough that I wouldn't buy one. I like the Prius for being the hybrid it is, and Toyota's reputation for reliability.

Cuckoo bird is accurate. Only time will tell if the last minute design change paid off or not.

no Gen4 or rather 690A is as good as gone there is absolutely zero doubt about it. I have not seen 680A, can only speculate that it was the original "organic" design, more like C/Aqua, and it will be released as PiP. Have no interest in 690A, but will keep eyes open for 680A, if it is 690A - cowbells. Perhaps Toyota realizes their mistake and will fix it midcycle or with Gen5.

ou've gotta admit there was conraversy with Gen3, but nothing on this scale. And it is not that I haven't written to Toyota about it either, they blew me off still waiting.

Since 4th gen was revealed, I've become more of a lurker here. In a way, some of us had too high expectations for Gen 4 and that's partly to blame. Then there were all the concept designs Toyota kept coming up with including the NS4, well I expected Gen 4 to look like that. Toyota kept saying that NS4 showed Toyota's new design direction. Its not just about the design either, I was expecting a bit more performance or AWD, was that too much to ask? Can't Toyota at least mention what else they intend to make in the coming years?

With my Gen 3, I can happily say I've been there done that so Gen 4 is just not going to be enough, certainly not worth the upgrade for me. Have to stress though that this is just how I see it, not trying to generalise at all.

Hmm, yes it's butt ugly, so what ? Gen 1-2and 3 were butt ugly, but each improved mpg, and gen4 is another 10% improvement, and it's butt ugly, so what?

Seems like this thread may troll to 1000 post's, so what?

I'm looking forward to gen 4 posts about a year from now, after new owners have a few thousand miles and can give real life impressions. Right now it's a gut reaction from pictures and a few videos. A mixed bag of positive and negative. I think it will be overwhelmingly positive in a year.

Some cars have that wow factor at the reveal that's overwellingly positive, other times not so much. At the end of the day it's about money. Car manufacturers are in business to make the most profit for the high capital outlay as they can. Cars cost billions to bring to market. A lot of thought and risk goes into a new car.

It is Toyota's goal that the Prius gen 4 is a big hit and a large profit maker. I hope it is. I'm sure I'll buy a gen 4 when my 2013 needs replacing.

Is the dashboard attractive? I think it looks a little retro? I need to drive it.

For me dashboard looks like they lifted it off C, then decide to pretty it up with diagonal trim and square side vents and in a process lost function the higher glove compartment and stash slot above steering wheel. Doesn't strike as prettier one but less functional.

Obviously none of the style conscious drivers here would want to be caught driving a ugly super fuel efficient, low polluting, highly reliable car. Reminds me of Steve Martin's cruel shoes skit in some strange way.

I just went to the LA Auto Show today, and I liked it! The design blends better in person than what a photo can show. I have to admit that I too thought that some of the design choices were questionable, not ugly, but highly questionable.

The best way I can describe my gut feelings about my initial impressions vs today would be an art analogy.

In my art classes, we're taught that to create a good composition, we have to have good focal points. When I first saw Gen4, I thought what went wrong was there was actually too many focal points to the car. Too many things were trying to attract our attention that there was no unity to the design, hence too much contrast. Those angry squinting eyes...that blacked out C-pillar...and tail fins? There wasn't much flow to it.
But after seeing the car in person, I've changed my opinion on the design...for the most part. At certain angles, I think it looks weird (at 1/4 front facing view, the angry squinting eyes buldge out slightly and contrast too much with the upper lip bumper). The car in real life has a design flow that can't be captured in an image. I think it's also the nature of the photo. You're trying to capture a 3D object into a 2D image, and some important subtlities were lost.

In conclusion, everyone will have their own personal opinions on the design itself, and I'm not here to change that, I just wanted to say it's not that bad looking in real life :D

so, i started this thread because it was an honest opinion. ive had several prii and have always loved their engineering and tolerated their so so handling. i will be getting another one but since ive been a car guy all my teenage and adult life id rather have something i can enjoy the looks of as well. its just an opinion. nothing more. nothing less. if you feel the same as i do then great. if you feel that it is heretical to not love it completely, well, i just have to disagree. i cant wait to see one in person. i may actually think, "oh, this is much better than i thought. or, it might grow on me." (hopefully not like a wart);)
