Interesting. I know the Prius, or at least the Gen 3, makes a weird noise while driving it at a slow speed, but I wonder how many people would notice it either outside of a really quiet neighborhood.

The Gen 1 Chevy Volt has a little button on the edge of the turn signal that you can press to make it do a fast 3 honk sound to alert people. Slightly less annoying/loud than pressing the horn.

Then Gen 2 Volt eliminates that, and instead does like the Prius where it makes noise at low speeds while driving.

Then there's situations like this. Totally stole this from the gm-volt forums:

 

There you go - make a commercial out of it. Get companies to pay you for low speed driving.

 

Pedestrians didn't even hear my TDIs when they walked in front of them.
