I think it was in one of the mag reviews, don't remember which one. And it was just a slight note but it sounded (or was made sound) like it was coming from unofficial conversation with Toyota people.

Even if you take equal split 6 models = 16.7%, and ECO is stripped down model.

I suspect ECO will be a unicorn, mythical creature just like basic Nissan Versa.

    Thanks for the links.
I could'nt find any evidence (proof) in your links that the new EPA 2016 rules has been used for the now official Prius IV EPA ratings.

So for the moment, on a compatible comparison basis, and same EPA test:
    Gen 3 with Ecopia EP20 = 50 MPG comb.
Gen 4 with Ecopia 422 plus = 52 MPG comb.

If you should find any official evidence that the new EPA 2016 rules has been used, please, let us know.
    Goodby.

    Good question.
In EU different trim have different testing and rating, in US it does'nt seems compulsory.
I could'nt find any evidence about the specific non-ECO trim tested on EPA. That someone mentioned the Touring (17") i guess is an unverified claim, but if someone knows more, please let us know.

yes unicorn. This is what people involved in car business calls models which only exist on the paper. If you were to try to get one dealer can special order one with 2 month wait and full MSRP price.

There are multiple reasons for unicorns to exist, for example GM dealers don't think anyone could be interested in manual transmission, but lately car manufacturers had created them intentionally to make a claim. Not sure what situation is with diesel Cruze or 3cyl Fiesta, but stripdown Versa are hard to find. Nissan might be losing money on them.

I am not sure why you'd have to reserve to this? Do you think this would put you above and someone reading this will not ask of you the same? Or you just throwing a tantrum like 5yo who lost an argument? Or maybe you're hoping to regress discussion so anything rational will be buried under?

I suspect due to EPA rule change and more importantly crackdown it would be easier to beat EPA numbers for any new 2016+ models, Prius included.

Plus the active shatters and better heat management should be of great help on short trips.

I propose that we unofficially (or officially), from here on, begin calling the ECO the "Prius Unicorn."

I think I could to possibly, if the ride is so much better and sound quieter, we might get one in 2017

...But I am not seeing that unicorn....if there are 6 variants that would average 16% per model if even split so 10% is OK a bit lower but not some super rare thing

I think the Eco Version will be more popular than expected.

I wouldn't rely on Consumer Reports for any real , unbiased information.

I'd buy a Prius Eco. Er , if I wasn't still paying for my 2015 Liftback Two. I don't think it's a unicorn. It might take a bit of patience to find one , but Toyota wants to sell a Prius to EVERYONE. And at only $500 more than the el cheapo Nimh car, it's a good value.

"“Modern.” “Dramatic.” “Emotional.” Take your pick of adjectives to describe the new Prius’ design. The shape may be familiar, but the new Prius is longer, lower and wider than its esteemed predecessors, to offer more interior room and provide a more planted stance for handling agility. Aerodynamic goals inspired the shape to help Prius score an increase in fuel economy ratings over the previous model."

Nothing beats marketing hyperbole, huh? But I'm a bit underwhelmed by this new look. Not bad but not, in my opinion, a hit out of the park except inside. There, it dazzles like nobody's business. But I've got to say that, after seeing one parked side by side with a 'v' in a dealer lot, I liked the look of the 'v' a whole lot more. Sorry.

But after having driven a Two Eco as a loaner, I'm beginning to warm up to the look. I'm already smitten with the way it drives so maybe it will find a place in my driveway before too much longer... 31716 upload 006.JPG 31716 upload 001.JPG
