Well so it's started out like this. My rear wheel bearing started to go bad like 2 months ago, it didnt seem to be a major issue so i told myself I'll deal with it when i can. Couple of weeks ago my engine start to misfire and knock on start up, with the check engine light. I took that seriously and took it to the toyota dealership and they said I needed spark plugs and fuel injector cleaned for around $450 and replace both bearing around $900. But I think it's only one (driver rear) that need to be replaced. I decided to only get spark plugs and fuel injector only. I was going to do the bearings myself cause I saw a diy youtube vid on it(never got to it yet).... so I got my car back and driving home it's seemed fine the couple of days later it went back to misfiring with check engine light. So I took it back , they swapped the coils around and a said come back if the problem is still there.... guess what it's still there. But I had school and work so I was too busy to go back asap... last week the wheel bearing got worst and cause my abs to fail (so that means no cruise control, traction control , and regenerating brakes)... I know it's my fault for not taking care of that sooner. (Waiting on the parts to come in) Yesterday getting off of work my coolant temp light came on (red) found out I was low on coolant. I stopped and picked some up and pour it in but that didn't fix the problem. And I had 45 min drive home and she was blowing steem out of the reservoir when i got there. Today I took her in and they said I need a new thermostat, water pump, water temp sensor and gasket all For almost $2000. I declined cause I couldn't afford it. And i felt like I was being ripped off. And they still didn't fix my misfiring issue cause they claimed that those were reason why it's misfiring http://s7.postimg.org/mdezlvc2z/20160205_202436.jpg
This is the pricing on what needs to be done. The labor is what kills it but notice how he try to charge me for the super long coolant on both top 2 papers (like I really need 4 gallons of coolant )

Now I gotta go find a trustworthy mechanic tomorrow... any suggestions on what I should do

Sounds like the car overheated at some point before you noticed the low coolant. That's probably what caused the original misfire.

This is interesting. I had an overhead light episode on my 2011 recently. I was at about 122k when the issue occurred. When my overheat light came on, I noticed that my heater was also not working (barely blowing warm air) and the overheat light also turned off after a min or two.

I'll start another thread tomorrow on the details and my diagnostic procedure using Techstream, but I ultimately found an issue with the Engine Thermostat operation (not the exhaust coolant one) and this has so far, corrected my problem for the last 1,000 miles.

Also, there is a relatively new TSB about misfires during EGR operation on the Gen 3; the fix is a revised intake manifold.

Head gasket or intake manifold problem if the intake has coolant in it or around it. ARGH! Maybe the same for all Gen 3s. TBD. It could even be worse than that and may require a rebuild. Amazing how dealers rip people off with fixes a car does not need and or does not fix the core problem. Suspect a massive recall on these but there will probably be a mileage limit. TBD
May take awhile for that to happen and or a class action to grease the skids. Still 178K is not bad.
If mine do not get upgraded to fix the cold knock before the extended warranty runs out I will trade them for a new Prius, Camry, or Corolla. Still the best car I have ever owned/just don't need those kind of repairs which a good engine design would prevent. Wonder how many cars last 178K???? Good question to research.
