I don't want it to be cheap. I want it to be at the same price level of the gen 3. And it doesn't seem it will. All because of a lot of standard features which are given not at the same prices but at a forced premium.
Again, let's wait the official price list in the EU countries.

things change, but i don't think they are forcing much in the base prius here.

And that's exactly what Gen 2 owners said when the Gen 3 came out. Look who's buying the Gen 4s on PriusChat - Gen 2 owners lol. It's ok to skip a generation :).

    Alternatively, wait for the Plug-in.

Let's wait for the German price list and I will let you know how much over 6 years is the price of the Prius changed. I have saved the current price list for reference....I have a feeling it will not follow much the inflation or the exchange rate....

2010 price was more or less the same where I live in the last 5 years. The base model with all possible discounts started at €24-25,000.

if i remember correctly, current G3 prices and equipment are better deal than when G3 was announced in 2009 in Europe.

Again, I dont see whats wrong with Auris Hybrid if you want no-frills hybrid. Base Auris Hybrid is likely what you want from Prius - good tech but not loaded.

I on the other hand, want one with all the tech, where Avensis diesel is way too expensive loaded with similar (but less) tech. So I am comparing it to Avensis and it is going to be affordable. I sure want it to be cheaper but it is not realistic.

Don't forget the high gaso taxes in EU Prius will pay off better than USA approaching $1 gasoline. Some say there will be a shift to gaso vs. diesel with diesel losing favor, but will be slow transition. Seems like Toyota getting ready though.

So, today I had a free day from work and I happened to be close to the Toyota dealer, and went to ask if they are going to have a Prius to test drive on Feb. 20th. (reason was also that this came out yesterday on the web).
    1. Germany is getting around 400 cars for the launch on the 20th
    2. one can already order a Prius and he said that if it is in the delivery list and the options are matching, one can have it delivered in 2-3 weeks
    3. he said that the prices and options are in the Toyota system and asked him to make me 2 offers, for 2 of the 3 types that will be offered here (no Eco or 4WD apparently are available here in Germany/EU)
    4. the price for the basic version is 28.150€, which is a whopping 3.200€ more than the prices back inJune 2009 (I have the paper printed price brochure from back then), thanks to 1,35% inflation rate increase per year and X-rate differences (134,97 vs 130,96 yen for 1€)
    5. the price for the "comfort" version, is 29.900€, a marginally higher price from the basic version (why then such a highly priced basic version), which is the second trim of the 3 available. This one is 1.900€ more expensive than the comparable Gen3.
    6. clear is that the standard offering of options in both versions is "plenty"
    7. winter tires need to be bought new (older wheels cannot be used) as per EU law in act since a couple of years, tire pressure monitoring is compulsory, hence for winter tires too - so I cannot keep the older ones, and I need to buy a complete new set - about 1000€ - keeping the tires and changing only the wheels, etc not really cheaper (or so the dealer said) - I haven't changed my winter tires since 2009, so getting everything new, not a bad idea per se.
    8. the white plastic interior is standard it seems.......

In the basic version, standard equipment (highlights, also in comparison to Gen3):
    • wireless charging
    • automatic headlights
    • LED headlights
    • lane departure warning and assist (LDW)
    • Pre-Collision System (PCS)
    • rear camera
    • Road Sign Assist (RSA)
    • Automatic radar assisted cruise control (ACC)
    • Automatic Speed Limit (ASL)
    • Heated and electrically foldable and adjustable rear mirrors
    • Fog lights
    • Automatic headlight levelling
    • Shark-fin antenna and DAB receiver (Toyota Touch 2 system)
    • 12V plugs front and for rear passengers
    • Notification of water level for wipers
    • Follow-me-home auto turn off for headlights
    • Electric lumbar support for driver
    • S-Flow on bi-zone automatic A/C
    • 15" alloy wheels with 195/65R15

Consumption per EU cycle is 2,9/3/3,1 L/100km (city/suburban/combined), 70g/km CO2, 180km/h max speed, 0-100km/h in 10,6secs, 67dB driving noise (not clear where, likely externally measured, not inside), 43L tank and Euro 6W norm for exhaust emissions standard compliancy 343L/502L baggage compartment, 1470kg weight

Compared to the basic version, the "Comfort" middle tier version offers on top of the above/changes:
    • Smart key entry on passenger and trunk sides
    • Blind Spot detection (BSM)
    • Heated seats
    • Head-up display
    • Rear drive assistant (to detect cars/pedestrians/bikes when getting out backwards from a parking spot) (RCTA)
    • Leather driving wheel
    • 17" alloy wheels with 215/45R17
    • Internal mirror automatically dimmable
    • Side windows water repellant treatment

    Consumption per EU cycle is 3,3/3,3/3,3 L/100km (city/suburban/combined), 76g/km CO2, same weight (??!?)

No mention anywhere on whether the E10 fuel can be used...and I hope it will.
No mention anywhere of a rain sensor for the front wipers and the dealer did not mention it to me as an option.
Apparently the Executive version offers "only" the leather seats as an option, but he didn't delve into any more details. I will wait for a full price list though and full options official list before placing any order....
And of course - test drive first, when and if they have one to test around the 20th...

Ps: I was told from the dealer that the IPA can parallel park very tight leaving no more than 50cm *overall* space between the Prius and the 2 other cars. That 25cm front and back. That's tight.

So, it seems that Basic model is "Eco" with slightly lower consumption.
Btw. lower CO2 could be interesting for London trip (75g/km limit for free Congestion Charge zone).

Can't see any information yet on toyota.de? Compared to our local site it seems that features are about the same. Only branding is bit different. My dealer said that (my) car is already on the way to Finland, but it will arrive in early April. Intresting that Germany gets cars that much sooner.

Also one big difference is with EU spec car is that ours are equiped with NiMH battery always. Maybe it works in ultra low temperatures better. We have seen this winter already -30C temperatures.

In our case rain sensors are not standard in mid tier car. But there is option to take "Plus package", which then brings naviagation, rain sensors, JBL audio with "10 speakers" (6 mounting places but front speakerd are 2-way)

Rediculously we don't get the sun roof in Germany while Austria,Switzerland and Bulgaria do get it and probably a few more European countries.
Austria and Germanys top version don't differ on equipment, so where's the sense in that ?
RIdiculously the sun roof isn't beeing offered in Germany, but it will be in Austria,Switzerland,Bulgaria and probably a few countries more .
Austrias top level Prius has the same equipment as the top level in Germany,so where's the sense in that ?

Just be happy you get a Prius. Most of Canada only gets a base model or base w/ Upgrade Package. The mid and top tier models/grades are only available in 3 metropolitan areas.

Well, it is not clear what we get in Germany because there is no official price list with all the options available anywhere. Until I don't see the official "Preisliste", I don't speculate further on what we are getting here.
And I will not order mine, until I see that list with all the official options, trims, extras, etc and *prices* written black on white.

I hate to dissapoint you,but it's official now,no sun roof for Germany !
You can buy a Prius in Austria however, and I am considering doing that, but I will wait until 2017 .
Maybe they will change their mind when the Hyundai Ioniq hits the market .
I am totally sure the Ioniq will have a sun roof and a very competitive price !
    I won't buy it,but others may will !

PS: the Toyota websites in .de and .at (Germany and Austria) are a mess - they show the old model mixed with the new one, if at all. The Austrian one defaults to the new one, but the online configurator shows the old one, and the page of the new Prius is interspersed of pics of the old one, and options too - it is a mess. Who the hell is taking care of these websites? they are doing a horrible job!!
And on the .de one, the only thing they talk about is the RAV4 Hybrid, which is also expected to launch on the same day as the Prius on the 20.2....

Yes but I spoke to Toyota Deutschland on the phone today !
No sun roof, because the 3 gen. Prius with the solar sun roof didn't sell well in Germany.
Also the Base version with 15" wheels never does well i was told, and they think it's because of the 15" wheels .
Since the gen.4 Prius with sun roof wouldn't be available with 17" wheels because of weight reasons anyway, these idiots think we wouldn't like to order a gen.4 Prius with a sun roof but 15" wheels !
They are still offering the base version with 15"ers though, but sadly decided not to offer the sun roof at all !
Absolutely rediculous, but what can you do ?
