Same here I had the OEM in my07 and I could not tell it was not holding a charge . Damn thing started and ran fine everytime.Funny enough i was messing with so 12v wiring in the prius and had it in accessory mode(power on car off) plugged a radar detector in to check to see if a plug was working and a few seconds later the volts on the detector's display dropped to 10.0 and an alarm went off. That is the ONLY way I ever would have known to even check the battery volts on the prius display.
Went with the optima yellow top.

By writing this I know I am dooming my 2005 original battery to its imminent demise, as soon as I hit enter.

Oh well..... Anyway, it is showing signs of weakening. I have a 30 mile drive each way, each day so I think that's keeping it going but will probably get a replacement soon. Voltage check was 11.9v after sitting overnight, checked out good last summer.

I've been lucky with this car.

10 years is a super long life run. Wow.

Living life in the FAST LANE Steve!! LOL Yea, I'm ordering a Yellow Top this week from Amazon, $149 with free shipping seems to be the best price I've found. I bought this car in December 2004 so the OEM battery is 11 years, 2 mos young. Toyota should buy it back for research!

IIRC, they were made by Panasonic. If they got it back, they'd just shake their heads, chuck it in the recycle pile and mumble... "lucky bastard" under their breath... :)

FWIW, IMHO due to the high content of recycled lead in today's batteries (and for the last 5 years or so), 12V battery life has permanently declined coupled with higher costs.

Yea, that's pretty wild isn't it. I've never touched it. Heck, I never even opened the compartment until last summer. Only did then to see if there was really a battery there. Thought maybe they accidentally sent me a Super Secret, Triple Dog Dare You future technology by accident. Once I safely removed the pocket sized Nuclear Reactor there was indeed a battery there. I buttoned it back up and kept rolling.

The first sign of trouble was a month ago on a short trip to the store. Even now, other than the test yesterday there hasn't been any indication of trouble. It's time to move on, hard to win a battery battle.

Get ready when you change it. There was about a 1/4 " of water in the bottom of my battery compartment. Pulled the drain plug, took everything out, dried with towel and hairdryer, coated the whole compartment with plasticoat. Dont know if it helps but cant hurt, right?

the water usually comes in from the rain gutter seam.
