'16 real MPG

New 4th gen owners should register on Fuelly asap, get some tanks on record.

@Tideland Prius are you still in van? Those numbers do sound kinda high.

 

your link is one road test by one guy at motor trend. not their usual testing, just to compare the two vehicles.

 

You should fix your spark plugs so your Prius isn't dieseling.

 

So far, we have put about 500 miles and about 1/4 tank left. My guess is 700miles per tank on average without driving like someone's grandma. That would put us at 61.4 mpg

 

The Miles To Empty disappears quickly at the end of the tank. I'm hoping for a 700 mile tank after my first was 650. Will mean driving some with the "gas light" on.

 

I do wonder about CR. They got 43 mpg in the city with their Prius c. The also complained about motor noise in that vehicle. When I drive in the city and go with the flow of traffic I get around 60 mpg. The motor is audible only upon accelerating. CR must have driven the car very aggressively to get a mere 43, and of course there is motor noise when you go full throttle.

 

Second fillup. Computer MPG 67.9 Calculated MPG 63.7
675 miles driven. 10.605 gallons (first click). gas light came on at 610 miles. DTE went to zero at 650 miles.
There is probably enough buffer in the tank to go another 50 miles - but why take the chance?

 

1. Document if the car gives any warning or just becomes an inert rolling mass.
2. Document the true tank volume.
3. Piss-off those who think running out of gas is a venal sin (and their fecal matter don't stink.)

If you don't get caught with your hand in the cookie jar, you aren't snitching enough cookies. - push the limit!
However, I'll say good decision to play it safe on this tank.
On the next tank, with this information in hand, go for that 700 mile mark!

 

I wish I could get 610 miles with my current vehicle with a 15.9 tank I am lucky to get a little over 300 miles.

 

and take some spare gas with you, a phone and a good pair of walking shoes.

I'm an owner of a 2016 Two Eco. I have 925 miles, and 3 fill ups (including the one that the dealer did when I purchased it.

The first time it was way off, I am assuming that the dealer didn't actually fill it up all the way.

The second time the prius indicated that I was getting 57 MPG. It took 7.25 gallons and went 386.8 miles. I calculate that at 53.35 MPG.

Today I filled it up again, it was reading 54.1 MPG, It took 4.99 gallons and the trip indicator said 249.4 miles. So that's just under 50 MPG. I'm not mad if my driving style costs me 5 MPG, but I want a guage that doesn't lie.

 

yes, it will be disappointing if the gauge is optimistic, after all the reviews that said it wasn't.

 

Is there any change in MPG after the initial break in period?

 

some say yes, some no. i never noticed any.

 

Had a nice warm day today. I got a glimpse of what summer might bring. 86.4 MPG on the commute home. Got 62 or so in the cool morning going to work. That one big hill is about 4 miles from home.
About 200 miles into my third tank and 73.0 MPG average. Tough grader 86.4 MPG and only got a score of 82 out of 100. H

 

A couple questions:

On screen shot #2 how is it possible that your average MPG is higher than your best MPG? isn't that mathematically impossible?

On screen shot #4 is the computer saying you got 86.4 mpg from you last fill up? Do you know how about how many miles that represents? If it is 31.4 why wouldn't that register as your best trip?

Ok, I learned something. The MPGs listed by your odometer (the one showing total miles) is not your MPG for all those miles. Rather it is just your MPGs since the last reset on the MFD.

So despite what it show here, the MPG I got over the course of 1637 miles is in no way reflected in th 59.2 number (it's closer to 51).



For these same reasons, it is possible to show an average MPG that is higher than you best MPG (answering my own question above)

But I expect you guys already knew that! I am learning .
