Mods - Feel free to move this to Fred's House if needed

    Surprising development today.

Supreme Court blocks Obama's climate change plan

    I have mixed emotions.
Here in Virginia it was becoming a heated topic because we are a purple state. Unclear how we can effectively give the states charge of something as emotional as this. Will be interesting to see how the structure of the regulation may evolve after court reviews.

There are a set of steps regulations have to go through. So I'm OK with this.

Clean Air Act as already instituted has saved XXX American lives. Websites abound for your perusal. Maybe they've done enough eh? Reached a point of diminishing health returns, with further risking strangulation of 'emitter' corporations. They being people too, are protected against unlawful decimation.

I'd not strongly oppose the idea that USA air quality is now good enough, except in a few places where it obviously isn't. If the EPA 'let that go' and focused all attention on water quality, a better bang might be achieved from the obviously limited bucks. USA being such a poor country as you all know. :)

That's the best I can do to make this a political thread instead. If perchance I fail, we could delve into ideas that air has a much shorter residence time than water. This matters.

It also matters that air moves much more widely globally than water does. Making your local emitters squeaky clean won't help against emissions from afar. Asia, perhaps? In contrast, trashing water quality is a much more local activity.

    Time and space, me hearties.

Due process is the law of the land. SCOTUS will be hearing / reviewing all argument for / against the climate change plan. Wouldn't be surprised if SCOTUS shoots down this climate plan.

CPP is a tremendous change (not just CO2 but also structure of the state/utility relationship) in rather quick time frame...immediate major actions were needed when you consider political factors (people in office now wanted to make the needed moves now - since the regs put the states in charge).

So SCOTUS had to speak now or the momentum was in progress.
