Well, we drove the new three since we have a 2012 now. That car is our 6th prius. The new one was very disappointing to us. The three does not have the pull out cover at the cargo hold ( cheap folding cloth with hooks), nor does it have the homelink mirror. The center console is the toilet bowl white element as well. The big issue for us is that to get these same items we have on the 2012, we have to go to the four which is at 30k. That is way too much for a prius. We paid 25k for our 2012 which had all these features. Do not get me wrong, we are a toyota family since we have had 6 of these products so far. We believe toyota has made a big mistake by de-contenting their cars and raising their prices. I talked to a local dealer and they said this is what they have been hearing from customers that this is a wide spread comment. We are going to hold off on a new purchase until/or if the prices drop on the four. if not, we will probably move over to hyundia Ioniq which has much more features, a/c seats, roll out cargo cover, home link and their cool bluetooth connection to the car. This model is fully optioned and should be much less in cost with a better warranty. Sorry toyota, you have lost a good customer. That white center element is the cheapest thing we have ever seen, imagine looking at that every time you get in the car. I know there is a $200 cover but why should we have to spend our money to fix their problem. If any others have the same feelings, please add to the chat- maybe toyota is listening.

really? prices will probably drop this summer, after they start building up on the lots, because no one is buying them.
btw, there are plenty of threads already here for you to join in on. but i suppose it's good to have another for the haters to come repeat themselves ad nauseum. maybe toyota will read and learn something.

Adjusting for inflation, the 2016 Four that I purchased in January was cheaper than the top-of-the-line Touring Prius I bought in 2008. And soooo much better!

If you are determined to dump the '12, why not buy a leftover '15 at a deep discount?

The post was not to be a negative but a comment on how Toyota has contented their cars. They have pushed people to the four with how they build out a car who really may not want the leather interior or the 30 k price. When you look at the price for the jump to the four, it is high for the added features. To have a folding piece of cloth with ties and hooks for a cargo cover is the worst idea for price savings, it was done to move people up to a four. I cannot imagine how this will easily work on a day to day basis. Shame on you Toyota.

they have decontented and recontented very generation. it's just their way. we don't have to like it.

did i want the flying bridge on the gen 3? lose the secret drawer and the console tray? loss of 3 door sks in lower package? no. i evaluated the market, and bought one anyway.

    I don't know.
It wouldn't be a deal killer to me one way or the other.

But the best Cargo Cover I ever had was in my Honda Fit, it was a hard cover, that was attached by strings to the hatch, so when you opened the hatch it automatically opened. Closed and it automatically closed.

I'm not impressed with The Toyota Prius pull out cover. It's nothing much more than a horizontal window shade. Pulling it out I'm always afraid it's going to be the last time it works, and sometimes when I'm in a hurry lining it up with the notches that hold it open is a pain. So I end up NOT using it very often.

As far as the white porcelain center console? This has been discussed a lot, and the general consensus seems to be a dislike. I'm guessing this might be something relatively short lived in The Prius Gen 4. I'd be surprised if it survives the next refresh. If you don't like it, Toyota already offers a solution.

To be honest. I don't like it as a whole. But I don't think it looks cheap...just maybe a little different for most peoples taste. If I owned a White Prius? I might actually want the white center console.

Seems like all manufacturers are headed that way. A lot them advertise their safety equipment or new technology but when you get to the dealer it is only on select models or bundle with other options in a package. Thereby, forcing consumers to buy up or accept less.

You have to remember Toyota is in business to make money and margins on the Prius are probably getting tighter, considering the falling sales of the Prius product.

All the car companies do this, and it has been going on for awhile.
The base Prius c and Insight2 with their sub $20k price didn't have cruise control. To get an automatic transmission in an Elantra, you had to get a package that added another $2k on top of the tranny price.

How do you explain the 2016 Honda Civic Sedan? You can get a loaded EX-L for the same MSRP price as a basic 2016 Prius II. Honda includes way more features and options for less money than Toyota. Does that mean Honda is more efficient or that Toyota is ripping people off?

    1) that's always been the case, it's not new with this generation Civic/Prius 2) the Civic doesn't have electric motors, inverter, battery--all of which add expense 3) the Civic sells in vastly greater numbers, increasing economies of scale.

2016 Prius Four Touring is my first Prius ever and I can't be more happier after driving a 10+ year old vehicle with the basic of the basic features. White thingy in the center and cargo cover thing in the back don't bother me one bit. Those are first world problems, complaining about those things. $34k out the door price for my car and it is worth it for me and I'll be driving my Prius for 10-15 years unless the Tesla Model S becomes affordable for me ($30-40k) before those 10-15 yrs are up. I got the Prius mainly for the its fuel efficiency and saving me money in the long run and no hybrid can beat the Prius at that. All the other stuff are an added bonus.

Explain what? I was saying that all the companies force you into paying more for a desired feature by bundling it up with others you may not even want.

Take the Civic. The LX with manual has a base MSRP of about $18.6k. Want the trip computer, you have to get the CVT($800) and Honda Sensing package($1000). Want a fold down rear seat, you have to upgrade to the EX.

When there was a hybrid Civic available, it cost the same as the then gen2 Prius while being an actual compact car with a tiny trunk.

Have you driven a Civic? I have. Not to say it is a bad car because it isn't but I know it isn't the car for me. Also the Civic hybrid not only doesn't get as good gas mileage as the Prius, but it also only comes in shades of grey (white to black). I wanted something not white, not black, not silver. Also, the higher end trims come with leather which aren't as environmentally friendly nor acceptable for us veggie types.

The 2016 Prius drives a lot nicer. I mean we all have our preferences. I freaking love my Prius and my previous car was a 'luxury' sedan. I had pretty high standards going into my next car and I wasn't sure if a Prius (or any Toyota) could meet them but it did. It is almost silly how much I love my car.

All I wanted was the dynamic cruise control.

Had to buy leather seats, fancy smancy radio, and a ton of other stuff.

    It must work for them.

Good luck with the Hyundai, I bought 2 new ones a SanteFe and a Sonata Hybrid , they had no resale value and when I took the Sonata in for a fuel tank sending unit I found their techs and shop management to be lacking compared to Toyota. The dealers are good at selling them but the support you get after the sale is lacking where I live.

Okay, it's not quite as bad as that. Dynamic cruise (along with the rest of TSS-P) comes with ATP on the Three. That includes a moonroof and Heads-up display as well, but you don't have to do Softex unless you get the Touring (though if you do, yay, you can lose the moonroof and HUD). I don't count XM and HD as all that fancy now (it's more like they're withheld from the Two to make it the "stripper", relatively speaking), and you certainly don't have to get the Four's upgraded JBL sound system. In 2015, dynamic cruise is still not quite standard fare, so while there might be exceptions, one would not expect to find it on "base" trim levels of most models.

Not to quibble, but Softex ain't leather - it's a nice pleather (with apologies to the materials engineers who cooked this thing up). Prius don't do leather.
