I had dropped off my 2010 prius III at Toyota of Plano for an oil change December 2, 2015. I picked the car up and went back to work, afterwards it would not go to ready status. I did the 3 start reset, it started.

Fast forward to last Tuesday. Go out in the morning, car will not start. I let the dealer know. That afternoon, it did. I left it at the dealer overnight. They replaced the 12v battery and said it was good. I picked it up Wednesday evening. Thursday went to work, and drove it home. Friday, "check hybrid system" is back again. But now it will not start. I am most frustrated that I left the car for diagnostics... 48 hours ago. What is going on!

Diagnostic codes tell the tale. Got them?

maybe they didn't make good connections at the battery.

If the new battery was not fully charged and you only drive short distances the battery has not been able to fully charge. Check the 12V battery voltage after sitting overnight (should be 12.5-12.8V) and, without making it Ready, turn on your headlights and measure the voltage again. If less than 12V you need to fully charge the new battery.

Also, best to do this measurement with a digital multimeter. If the car has a Multi Function Display, I believe it's possible to display the 12 volt battery's voltage on one of the screens, but it's accuracy is dubious. Checking at the jump point (under the hood) seems to give more-or-less the same result as directly measuring at the battery posts.

It's best practice with new batteries to hook them up to a smart charger, charge them fully, just before install. But dealership more-n-likely doesn't do this, doesn't have the time/inclination. Not doing this is normally ok, but if a battery's been sitting at their place for inordinately long time, might be a problem.

A week later, dealer said it was a plug melted. They gave me a rental and all is good. Now I picked up the car and I have no radio. Just "insert nav disc" error.
