This is exactly the point! In all honesty, I do not care if the full size tire will fit. For me more than enough to be able to have a donut. It was done for Two Eco as in post #1. So the question is: could the same be done for Four Touring?

I think the real prove would be if someone who owns Four Touring does it. Or at least confirms the cargo area looks identical to Two Eco.

I can't see Toyota making the actual body different from the Eco to the touring. What I can see them doing is using different interior panels

agreed, but if the floor is the same height, everything should be the same underneath?

Consideration should be given to the overall diameter of the spare vs. the full size tire. The drop in ride height and how the difference in rolling rate effects the drive wheel CV/diff/traction control could be significant.
    25.0" for the P195/65R15 tire (833 revs)
    24.7" for the P215/45R17 tire (843 revs)
23.9" for the T125/70D17 Toyota spec temp spare (872revs)
This only -0.55" max in ride height and about 30 to 40 more revs over a mile.

On the other hand our Chevy with the same size wheels and tires as the Prius came with this compact spare.
    20.3" for the T155/70D14 (995 revs)
This is -2.35" in loaded ride height and 150 to 160 more revs per mile. Some thing to think about if going with a smaller spare. Weight difference of the rubber is only 2 lbs. more for the 17". (Ride height with 1/4 to 1/2 ton of humanity in your car is ???)

Wonder what the rev/mile difference is between the front wheels when turning at full lock?

Yeah I thought the temp spare looked a little smaller OD. Seems to work fine, and not throw a code or anything though. I've used ours once.

There's nothing in the Owner's Manual though. Hey, you could put on four of 'em, tool around town. :)

I was passing by another Toyota dealership and stopped to chat with the salesman. They did not have Four Touring, only Four. I said OK, show me the Four. He opened the trunk but refused to remove the stuff to see the cargo area. I discovered though that Four does have auto-dimmed mirror with HomeLink. Somehow I thought only Four Touring had that. So one of two would work for me, but after seeing Four Touring I think I am sold on it.

Here in Southern California it looks they all have them now. And plenty. Toyota also started a TV campaign for Prius 2016 offering 1.9% financing. I think they made the decision a couple of years ago about the priority of MPG, which caused strange choices for some model like not having the spare tire. All of the Gen IV models except for Two Eco have the same MPG. And I think that was their main goal. They promised the next generation will be 10% more fuel efficient, and they delivered it.
At that time oil was $120 / barrel. Now it is $30. And Toyota's strategy seems to be the wrong one. For example, if I cannot fit a donut into Four Touring, first time in my life I will start looking into other manufactures. And I could not care less about a little drop in MPG

If comes to that, don't bother checking out the Tesla, or BMW 3-Series*.

Edit: *they don't have spares either

Believe it or not a lot of manufacturers are ditching the spare in favor of the inflation kit.

My Cadillac CTS didn't come with a spare. It has 1 now

I guess the last resort would be to buy a donut and just put it in the car when going for a long trip.

actually, the different packages don't get the same mpg's. but the epa let's them show the same on the monroney sticker. you will get less with the 17's. and packages that weigh more.

    Yup, same here.

Even just posting text is flakey, takes multiple tries. I've tried posting an image a couple times this am, and get immediate error pop-up.

I've been doing @Danny alerts, and did a message to him about a week back, no response.

(as usual, it took two tries to post this)

Might be best to just buy a plain Jane two and bump up the tires psi a few (same tires as Eco now supposedly right?) and then snap off the rear wiper.... Thus saving $500 in the process and having a free spare?

    :p
