    Hey folks,

I'm gonna take the new car in for a tint job soon - in years past when I've taken newish cars in to get tinted I've seen wild quotes.

Just wondering - how much did each of you pay to get your 2016's tinted? Whole car?

    thanks!

Anywhere between $200-$400 is the norm. Find a place with good reviews and lifetime warranty on install and product, get a decent quote...and you should be good.

It's not just labor. The cost goes up with top material. $400 for 3M ceramic that will never fade or turn purple.

I got the lowest Llumar film. It says it has guaranteed color stability. I don't have the evidence to argue either way. But it was hard to justify twice the cost for what the ceramic film promised. My car looks pretty good right now.

Wow. That's a very cheap price! Is it guaranteed for life on install and product? Are there any bubbles or hairs visible under the tint?

Did you opt for the windshield eyebrow? We find it really helps with sun glare.. You can always add it later for $30-$40.

I didn't get the eyebrow. I have the safety sense and it uses a camera behind the rear view mirror. I didn't want to obscure the camera or sensor.

I don't see any problems with the tint job. No hairs, bubbles, streaks, etc. It looks clean and sharp. I watched the guys do it. They were clearly experienced. They cleaned the glass, cut down the film, prepped then applied it, trimmed it to fit. I've yet to find anything wrong with their work. This was a small shop. I didn't ask about a warranty. I could see they were using Llumar film and I knew it was a reputable product.

I've gotten a few quotes over the last few days - two people thought the 2016 was a Prius C..... :(

Quotes have been $189-$279 - all windows except front windshield.

Once I make a final decision, I will post pics.
    thanks all!

It shouldn't affect the camera / sensor / radar in the windshield since they cut the tint around that.

Formula One ceramic tint $310 all windows except front windshield. Haven't done it yet, but it's on the list of things to do. The motorcycle cops drive around Los Angeles handing out seat belt tickets. so a nice medium tint will keep the po-po from hitting me with a ticket.

I just had mine done on my Gen 4/4. Got all windows done (not the windshield), in Xpel Prime XR Ceramic 35% VLT, for $549 incl. 9.8% tax. That film comes with a 10 year warranty, too. Looks stellar!

Decided no more tint jobs for me. At night I can actually see out my windows. Sunglasses are cheap and effective. But don't ever forget you sunglasses. :ROFLMAO:

Also I can now clean the inside of my windows.

I rarely drive at night anymore. But in the past, I had a very difficult time seeing out of my Camry at night, especially the side rear-view mirrors. (I had medium tint.) Sometimes I had to roll down the window in order to change lanes safely.

The Toyota dealer wants $300. A local shop charges $179. There's dozens window tinting places in my area and the prices are all over the map. All the tint looks the same to me.

I drove in a car we got used that came with heavily tinted windows. Including the windshield (this was in Guatemala). It was like sitting in a cave. And at night it was really tough to see all the bicyclists on the road with no lights or reflectors. We couldn't stand it and stripped off all the tint.

I had just my Gen 4 Prius' rear hatch windows (upper and lower) tinted with Wincos 70 (Automotive Film) that rejects most infared (heat) but passes visible light and cellular signals. The idea is:
    (1) to reduce heat load in the car during hot weather
    (2) if my dog is back there, to avoid baking her
    (3) to protect the thin wires of the defogging heating elements when cleaning the inside of the window (to remove dog slobber, etc) - I broke wires on my Subaru's rear window doing this
    (4) since my Model 2 ECO lacks a rear wiper, to keep as much light as possible coming through for visibility

The installer made a special offer to do all the windows but I didn't want that.

I don't like heavy tinting on other cars because it keeps me from seeing which way the driver is looking (or if they aren't looking at all).

And if I am pulled over by a cop, I'd like the cop to be able to see inside my car. If I were a cop walking up to a heavily tinted car, I'd be more tense not being able to see what's going on inside. Given how trigger-happy many cops are these days, I'd like the cop to be nice and relaxed as s/he approaches my car.

The dealer post $179 tinted option to our Two ECO when we pick it at the dealer's lot.
