it is in the settings. Just can't remember as I will check later. Maybe the upper left hand corner direction button. Prefer North myself.

Hopefully you don't mind borrowing this thread but...

Other navigation related question: How do I get turn-by-turn instructions to the HUD? Can't find it from the owners manual neither by just trying different menu screens.

Course, no worries. I was too shy to ask ... How do I get a voice on the navigation. Currently she behaves like my wife, silent.

Touch screen, an icon near the top changes between North and whatever.

Turn the volume up, play with the options, it may be turned off or down

Tap the compass on the Nav screen. There are 3 successive options:
    1) North is Up
    2) Direction of Travel is Up
    3) Direction of Travel is up in a 3D display.

Thanks so much. Another dumb question which my shrunken brain cannot figure out. How can I get the sat navigation to talk the directions to me. It's muted like a good wife should be LOL .

I tried under apps then settings then navigation , also tried options from within the navigation screen .

It only ever speaks if I press the speaker button on the navigation screen then stops until I press the speaker button again.

My "Penelope" has been running her mouth since day one!

I still haven't read the navigation manual. I get better "learnin" from YouTube videos.

But anyway, when I want to use the Navigation, I just press the "Talk" button on the steering wheel and tell her the destination I want. Then she tells me where to proceed and turn. I don't even have to go to the Navigation screen... I just press that steering wheel button. That's all I know. Guess I better read the instructions today.

Try increasing the volume while the Navigation system is speaking.

I figured it out a while ago. There was some setting somewhere that was disabled for navigation voice.

Yep, I just found it on page 63 of the Navigation Owner's Manual.

    VOICE SETTINGS

    Press Apps button
    Select Setup
    Select Voice
Go to "Automatic Recognition Prompts"... Select On/Off

(Or, you can press the "Default" button at the bottom of the screen and everything will go back to factory specs.)

I meant to say "Automatic Navigation Guidance"... Turn it on or off.

The more I read in the navigation manual, the more overwhelming and complicated it becomes. Older folks, especially those who have never used navigation before, would never be able to figure that stuff out!

I can picture my 87 yr old dad, putting his fist through the Nav screen! :ROFLMAO:

All back to back to back to back posts merged

I can picture my 18-year old neighbor's daughter similar frustration at trying to read a gas station road map.

I think you are on something/not onto:LOL: remember taking a fellow worker for a ride and he was messing with my navigation system. Took months to figure out how to get it back the way it was.

I think the Prius Nav although not fantastic, is one of the best Ive used that come with OEM car builders as an option. Ive used ones in Mazdas, Acura, Chrysler and Nissan. This is not too shabby.

Frederickdawg, would you be willing to share some details on your impressions. I what way do you see the Nav as better. I have a 18 year old Lexus with Nav and of course due to its age and lack of map upgrades it is abysmal. But I haven't had any other car with Nav so I'd be interested in hearing more of your thoughts. Thx, J

Firstly, I noticed there is minimal lag/delay in key presses. Secondly, I like the way it gives me options or variable routes to use and also split screen option showing me what directions are next, even though I dont like the way its shown from bottom of the screen to top, normally one reads the top and then goes down to the bottom.
Over all its more fluid and fuss free from the ones I am used to. Hell some of the ones I used in the past didnt even give me a preview .
