Gen4: Do you have the "Proximity Noisemaker?"

    I could definitely hear the thing, made my engine sound broken. I tried to tie a piece of foam around it, but I could still hear it.

    there is a federal mandate. not sure what year it kicks in. toyota and others are being proactive. bob wilson calls it 'bell the hybrid'. it was promulgated by the national association for the blind.

    LEAF is the only one I can think of. IIRC, it's not federally mandated (even though they've tried to pass it. I don't recall it being actually approved. Toyota was just being proactive since TMC probably created it for Japan [with an OFF button] so TMS said, just throw it in the US spec cars)

    LEAF is the only one I can think of.

    It was on the table but I don't think it was ever passed as a law. It was delayed twice wasn't it? (Or am I thinking of another vehicle-related law?). Toyota was just being proactive and put it in ahead of time.

    Yep, but does the Prius have a proximity external noise maker? Have never heard anything except the stupid constant whining to alert all the eye seeing dogs. 2012 has it but not the 2011. Seem to be not as loud on the 2016.

    We should just be grateful we aren't required to have someone walking ahead of us waving a flag and blowing a whistle as we ease through parking lots.

    Late Saturday night I stopped at a rest area on I-95. Two women with a baby in a stroller were standing in the parking lot, right in the middle of one of the lanes, having a very extended chat. Oblivious to cars trying to park around them, and not that easy to see in the overhead lights.

    Can't compare volume but I have heard it on our 2016. The volume is adjustable. (Dealer or Carista)

    In that scenario, it wouldn't matter unless you had a Harley. They wouldn't hear you coming anyway.

    Oh darn, is it not in there? Maybe I mistook it for the ICS sensor volume?

    It is listed in the manual, however. (Pg 753: Customizable Features)

    I heard it again guys. Low volume, but I distinctly heard it echoing off the walls of a drive-thru joint.
    Only "OG's" like me, will remember this classic 1954 horror film... "THEM." And in this short YouTube clip, is the exact sound my "noisemaker" produced. :eek:

    I kept trying to recall where I heard that sound before. :confused: It was very familiar. Then it popped into my head...

    THEM!
