Have you tried the new fob to see if it works? It may be working. If it doesn't, the recommendations I would have would be to change the battery in your old fob and try to do it faster. If the new fob is doing anything at all on step 9C, that means its working. I'm betting that your new fob is fully programmed. Try to use it as you would your old fob and report the results here.

It worked for me too with SKS keys bought from Amazon for $108 apiece! (Those were from Daytona Toyota with the silver logo and uncut steel keys.) The buttons were sticking on my master fob so I couldn't remotely lock/unlock the doors. Plus the transmitting for smart entry or even key sensing was hit-or-miss even with a new battery. Here in NJ, I couldn't even find a decently-priced quote from a locksmith -- staring at a $400 bill.

Procedure A worked just fine since it did not involve pressing buttons on the old master but Procedure B hung up at step 9b. I kept getting the double-lock-unlock cycle that told me it did not work successfully. I would have been happy there since I could at least drive the car and had more than 1 key but I wasn't done yet.

I took the old master inside, thinking I would just change out the electronic components. Using a small screwdriver on the valet key side away from the electronic components, I carefully cracked the case open which seemed to do something as the car alarm started going off outside. So I guessed that the old master wasn't quite so dead after all! Then I put the old master back together and tried the buttons and now they worked. Completing Procedure B on my new fobs worked perfectly after that! So thanks to usnavystgc for saving me a boat load of money to get working fobs and loving my Prius again! 2 keys for half the programmed price of 1!! That's a deal!

Does the little red light on your old master fob go on when the lock or unlock buttons are pushed? If not, then step 9B will not work since the remote is not being recognized and doing step 9C results in the double lock/unlock cycle indicating not successful. IF your buttons are sticking, they might feel like they push but don't actually engage the remote lock/unlock function from outside the car. At least, that's what happened to me.

Perhaps a new battery if the range on the remote functions has dropped. If the range on the old master is bad, try placing it near the car's push button start almost touching it without starting the car. The sensor seems to be near there. (BTW, putting the key near the push-button start works for remote sensing to start the car when the battery is low.

Worked like a champ for me. Programed the key as a regular key first. Then tested it. Then followed the instructions to do the SKS part. Thanks a lot for the assistance.

I have used this in the past and it worked great for me. But I ran into a problem recently. I lost the key I had programed, however I still have my master that came with the car. I replaced the battery first and tried to use it with the car. It works if plugged in but the SKS functionality doesn't work anymore. is there a way to reprogram this one? or did I kick it out of the ECU when I programmed the one I lost?

Either way I bought another one off amazon from a toyota dealer and I was able to get through procedure A no problem. But since the master doesn't have SKS functionally it's not working when I try to use it on procedure B.

What I have tried: I bought another key from the same dealer, because I was able to get procedure B to work with first new FOB that I had purchased that was programed by my master (the one without SKS functionality working anymore). Although I was not able to get it to program the SKS on either of the new ones even though I was able to get the prius into add mode.

    My questions are:

Since both keys are programmed to start the car now and they both do work for that if plugged in. should they be able to allow me to program one as SKS? is it just me doing the last steps wrong?

Or is it possible there are too many FOBS assigned to my car? if that's the case what are my options? Go to Toyota dealer?

Or can I reset my immobilizer? (Not sure if that's right)

Also I was a mechanic for 7 years when I was younger. so I'm open to trying to do it myself. But a little guidance would be super appreciated!!

    Thanks ahead of time.

Too many fobs is not your problem at this point. The problem is your master's SKS functions. Do you by chance have the SKS switch under the steering wheel turned off? Check that first. If that's not the problem then carefully take your master fob apart and clean it inside and out with alcohol. Make sure all the micro switches are functioning properly. One of them may be stuck. Put it back together and try procedure B again.

I forgot to mention I did check the SKS switch first and it was on. I will try cleaning it like you said it is a little dusty inside because the master has a hole where one of the buttons was. Which is why I replaced it.

I'll try what you said and report back what happens. Thanks for the quick response!

The SKS switch should be "ON".

So I tried cleaning it and ran it again. It didn't work uknfrotunalty. When I press the buttons the red LED lights up for each button when you press it on the master FOB. Both the new FOBS can get through procedure B into add mode but when it comes to the last step they both do the two lock. I'm assuming that I need the original to do procedure B to get the SKS to work on these new ones right?

What are my other options in this case?

As long as the master fob SKS functions are not working, you won't be able to program another fob with that one. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for you. The key to working this out is to get your SKS functions working on your master.

I recommend you contact PC member "ovni" and ask him for help.

Got it thanks man I appreciate the help! I'll try cleaning it again one more time and if that doesn't work. I'll try reaching out to ovni.

I also saw this thread and wondered if this can help me: Successful SKS Reset using Mangoose cable and used Keyfob registration | PriusChat

Just another thank you for this excellent tutorial, usnavystgc. Just added a brand new, full SKS fob to our '07. Got PROCEDURE A on the 1st try and B on the second. 9c really does need to happen within 3 seconds of 9b!!

For me this was quicker and easier than hooking the laptop to the car and fumbling my way through it with Techstream would have been. Appreciate the effort you obviously put into the the perfectly clear instructions.

There is so much helpful information on this forum and other parts of the web about programming Prius Keys. I've spent a couple hours reading and verifying everything prior to attempting to program my key and after and am wondering why the SKS functionality for opening the doors and starting the engine without the key in the ignition or just by pushing the door button doesn't work.

Our car is a 2008 Prius. I purchased a silver logo key from Amazon (89994-47061). I followed the directions above exactly and everything went smoothly and matched what was described here. Starting the car works, unlocking/locking the doors with the clicker works, but the SKS functionality does NOT work. The SKS functionality stopped working a couple years ago on our key and we didn't think much of it. Is it possible that there's a fuse or some other problem on the car preventing the full SKS functionality from working?

Should I try the programming steps again? Any other suggestions? I'd really like to get the SKS functionality working on at least the new key. I've been reading the forums but haven't found anyone describing the same condition.

    Thanks!

I wanted to thank usnavystgc for initiating this thread. I was able to purchase a brand new smart key for $96. After 5 minutes of the chicken dance my second key is all set!

Peter, If SKS doesn't work on your original/master fob, you cannot program a new one with it.

Did you check the switch underneath the steering wheel to ensure the SKS functions are turned on?

Hello I am new to posting and new to prius (one week). I inherited a 2006 Prius and loved the mpg but I have only one key/fob. I have read numerous thread but I am not able to enter programming. I notice that if I inserted the working key I have to the slot that the car does not start but works if not inserted... little weird to me. I have changed the battery and same result. Shouldn't I be able to start the car when the working fob is inserted? Please help or redirect me to the post that have similar problem. Thank you in advance.
