I guess I did not understand the concept all along. I have a Gen II regular and was thinking the touring version has literally bigger wheels (rim + tire). So then the post #1 in thread "
    Compact Spare for Two Eco
" should be applicable to Four Touring model?

That's what sold me (on 17"): anything to avoid the wheel covers on 15". The 15" PIP rims look REALLY good to me tho.

with a larger wheel, and smaller tyre wall, is the ride harsher?

The concept is called plus sizing and Tirerack can do a better explanation than I can. Plus Sizing 101 - Make Driving Fun with Performance Tires & Wheels | Tire Rack
Interesting. I detest the PiP rims. Too many spokes. I would much prefer the regular 5-spoke Prius rims with wheel covers because black reminds me of the days where the lowest trim cars don't even get hubcaps and sport stark black steelies. I agree the 17" looks really nice but the increased cost of tires and higher risk of damage for rim and tire versus 15" makes it a no go for me.
When I went from 14" to 15" wheel on my Integra, that is exactly what I noticed.

Yes. It's not too bad if you stick close to the door jamb decal pressure.

when i drove my brothers lexus some years back, it looked like there was a quarter inch of rubber on the aftermarket wheels, and felt like it too.

Anyone check the doughnut for the 2009 Touring to see if it fits the 2016?

2nd gen tire OD is less, so I don't think it'd work.

You can look on eBay for a donut spare for the Lexus CT200H which is an exact match for the Prius 17 inch spare T125/70D17 5x100 lug pattern. CT200H is built on Prius chassis.

FWIW, 15" and 17" lug pattern are the same. I'm pretty sure the temp spare would be common too.

I believe the Scion TC 05-10 is also the same size and lug pattern.

So, what is the final verdict? Corolla doughnut from a junk yard, tirerack, or what. A plug kit may not work for catastrophic failure. Also a tow truck could be nasty on a deserted road on a hot day.
