    Please remove me from the forum, I am done with this. I have been cursed at, and was cool about it. I was ridiculed for not buying a $400 charger, when I asked a simple question about a cheap DIY (not free!) kit. Now you say that I don't like answers and waste everyone's time... Where did you see ONE SINGLE POST I made, that wasn't appreciative of legitimate suggestions? And your post, from a senior member, who has "friendly" in his username, accusing me of wasting everyone's time? Well, thanks for being so "friendly" man, but I guess I'm done here.

    I was just going to post this....
    Here is a very detailed page with schematics and a bill of materials for building a charger
    grid-charger-discharger
    The only difference is that it is for a 144v pack.
    Since the Prius pack needs a higher voltage than this, You either have to add additional power supplies in series or swap out the power supplies for higher voltage.

    Interesting concept. The voltmeter on the high voltage output also needs to be replaced with one that will read up to 250V.

    it could be me, but i find those posts offensive. you know, no one gets paid for answering your questions. if you would like a better service, ask toyota dealers, i'm sure they would love to fix your car.

    I find your post offensive, both of them actually. By your standards, if members aren't allowed to ask questions, what is Priuschat.com for? I asked a question, got profanity for one answer, and then sandblasted for asking about a charger. Now, I'm responding with how much I did not appreciate either response, and your ticked off at me for responding to them... Not cool, not cool at all.

    Perhaps it makes sense to see if you can isolate the problem generally, and then work from there to find the specific problem? An engine isn't working it's one of the following:
    Intake problem
    Exhaust problem
    Fuel Ignition problem
    Timing problem
    Cylinder not holding compression
    Fuel mixture problem
    Friction problem (from two parts rubbing that shouldn't - these kill engines FAST)
    (I might be missing one or two here)

    Do each cylinder hold compression? Are the intake and exhaust valves opening and closing completely and at the right time?

    What it sounds like is occurring is the ECU(s) start the engine, but the engine doesn't provide as much power as expected, therefore it gets shut down again. This could occur if a cylinder wasn't holding compression. Therefore it could be one of the seals in the engine, or really any of the other problems above.

    Update: I have the traction battery charged (thanks to a fellow PriusChat member), and the car still just spins over, but does not start. I sprayed a little starter fluid in the air filter, and it did not even sputter while spinning over, so I'm still guessing that this is a crank sensor. I would think it would show a code for that, but it hasn't. We'll pull the plugs tomorrow, and verify there is no spark, and do a compression test as well. Hopefully it is not a serious mechanical issue, like a timing belt. The saga continues.

    Prius has a timing chain. Only belt runs the ac and the water pump nothing else.

    It is best not to guess. You are quite correct, if the crank sensor detected a fault you would have a DTC.

    So, what DTC's do you have?

    Not if changed every 100,000 mi as in the maint sched.

    As was previously suggested, check the sparks and do the compression test, before jumping the gun.

    Will post the latest DTC's today, just found a puddle of oil inside the intake manifold, under the throttle body. I have fished, in smaller bodies of water, so I know this can't be good. Compression test (dry) shows 115-90-45-60 psi from left to right, respectively. Will try a wet test shortly, but it looks like a head gasket failure to me.

    All that oil doesn't sound good, that will certainly need to be cleaned up.

    Sounds like the compression test was useful, and you are making progress. Let us know how the second test goes.

    The wet test was not much better, only added a couple psi on each cylinder. I was able to drive the car down the road on battery only, and make sure everything else worked, before I invest more into the car. Time to tear the head off.
