Oil change? (every 5k, so you're about due for one…)

 

It will come on every 5k miles but you have to look in the warranty and maintenance guide to determine what is needed when. The short version is rotate the tires at 5k and change the oil at 10k intervals.

 

Every 5000 miles is Tire rotation and vehicle inspection.

Oil change is only every 10,000 miles.

the 15,000 mile service is page 41 of the PDF, page 39 of the manual.

 

At 4500 miles you get a blinking "maint" light when you first start the car for about 30 sec. At 5000 miles it stays on.

 

The important thing is that this is a reminder light, not an urgent or catastrophic light. Schedule at your convenience.

Oil changes are needed based on time and type of usage as well as miles. By the time I had as many miles on mine, I was doing my 4th oil change. 1k, 5k, 10k, 15k. Obsessive, yes.

 

Pointless, yes! This is not SA oil. It is not even the SD oil available when I started driving.

yes, there is a way. hint: owner's manual. now, some people apparently find it easier to ask on a forum.

 

Not everyone will have the paper manuals. It may very well be used.

Which is why I linked the PDF of the manual for him. I want him to know what maintenance Toyota thinks it needs, as the dealer may have some other agenda.
