crazy audio!

    When it gets near 80 degrees my entire audio system first gets scratchy, then goes out altogether. A nice cool night and the next morning it is back going until the midday sun and heat arrive.

    Anyone with advice on this?

    Welcome to PC ! I can't comment directly on this Prius-specific malfunction, but I've had car audio components in the past that have behaved like that. Usually came down to a compromised capacitor that became heat-sensitive as a result. In this case I bench-checked the unit with a 12V power supply and when it malfunctioned I sprayed each capacitor in turn with non-conductive freeze spray for electronics. Found the culprit, removed, ordered, and replaced. More cost-effective than a complete replacement.

    I had a similar situation as AzWxGuy in a different car. The pioneer aftermarket radio would not work when temperatures dipped below 30. The manufacturer replaced a bad capacitor under warranty.

    Thanks for the quick reply! I've also heard that it could be the amp since all functions, including the cd and phone go out. Thoughts?
