    Hallo everyone,

can somebody recommend me reasonable company in europe, which can rework my prius to plug in, please? + 4kW would be all right for my driving needs. This should be better way, than selling my prius and buying new plug-in with all paperworks and annoying stuff around. Thank you very much.

sure its possible, even one company from neighbour country was doing it, but they stop so I need to find another one from Europe. Few things to keep in mind - loosing warranty /I am over already/ and you will not be able to buy extended warranty for hybrid system /I am using this and have in warranty/ + there are some articles on internet, that some vehicles after conversion cought fire and explode. + they are quite pricey, like 4kW upgrade for 7k EUR... or 5k with do it yourself kit. I can paste links for some companies I found, but these will not help me, as I found only some US ones. Plug In Supply | Plug-In Upgrades for the Toyota Prius
Enginer | Prius Plugin PHEV Conversion Kit with Lithium-Ion | Hybrid

There were companies doing it in the past, but I don't know if they are in business any longer.

I believe the most cost effective way to have a plugin Prius is to trade in your regular Prius for a Plugin at a dealership. The conversion kits are very costly and are not superior to OEM plugin.

I would agree with this statement.
For now, the most reliable option is the factory Plug In.

In the U.S. they do it in Colorado due to high state incentives for conversion, see Boulder Hybrids. But it's expensive without the state credits.

thanks guys, it looks like, this is the right way. Even it is complicated one /nobody in my or all neighbour countries are selling plug in - used cars, but I will keep watching, it may appear like once a year somewhere :)/

To who is interested, I found something in EU. Some company from Czech, they have 10KW package on stock and have a deal with Plug In Supply | Plug-In Upgrades for the Toyota Prius regarding this topic. So I am waiting now for prices and lets see, if it will be reasonable in compare with trading prius to PIP. I think, if regular prius is added with 10KW, it still can use EV only to 75km/h as this is point, when ICE starts. This is also one disadvantage, as PIP can go around 100km/h on EV I think, right?

I would assume that the HSD function remains the same, so moderate electric-only acceleration under 30 mpg if you use the EV button and low electric-only acceleration above that until the ICE kicks in. I don't know how the use of the additional battery works, but I expect that the original HV battery stays charged using the extra HV battery and the ICE does not need to run extra to recharge it. Probably like driving with with 7 or 8 bars in the HSI indicator.

    Keep us posted please!

Within some time passed, I managed to find toyota service guy localy in SVK who can mount me that 7kW kit for prius nearly like for free/100-200EUR/ /it is not 10kW as I mentioned somewhere before/. Kit is ready, I am now trying to get original new batteries as cheap as possible for this kit/hoping for purchasing prices from some CR company/ and than I will decide, if it is worth to do this installation. I does not want to be super excited about it, but there is still hope it will not cost anywhere near those crazy prices which I see 7k+2k for 7kW kit from plug-in supply. Lets say, If I can manage it around 4k, than I am quite sure, I will go for it. We will see. I will keep posted, what happend.

What is the name of the company that makes the conversion kit?
If it is an older kit it may not have reliable components in it.

The maximum EV Mode speed in the European spec PIP is only 85 km/h (about 92 km/h indicated) for some reason - not sure why it's lower than US and Japanese models.

someone mentioned 'city mode' might be the reason.

Yes, I've driven around the EV mode speed limit on a dual carriageway (100 km/h limit) and didn't feel I was a nuisance to other drivers. All trucks and buses are limited to 80 or 90 km/h anyway (IIRC there are similar rules across the EU) so there is slower traffic too. However, EV range is not great at these speeds.

I saw somewhere that with 2nd gen Prius PHEV conversions they were able to increase the EV speed limit to 60 MPH - so maybe similar modifications are available for the 3rd gen (or will hopefully be available in the future)?
