    Cancer concerns may have merit.

Major Cell Phone Radiation Study Reignites Cancer Questions - Scientific American

The findings shocked many scientists who had been closely tracking the study. “I was surprised because I had thought it was a waste of money to continue to do animal research in this area. There had been so many studies before that had pretty consistently not shown elevations in cancer. In retrospect the reason for that is that nobody maintained a sufficient number of animals for a sufficient period of time to get results like this,” Carpenter says.

Not really a surprise. We had human data already showing that people exposed to highest radiation (highest phone use group) had excess of gliomas (they are most incurable BTW). Heck, my son did a school science fair project with various plants at different distances from wi-fi antenna. Some plants did fine some didn't. the only reason this info was not widely known was the industry with their "scientific" studies showing no harm (surprise, surprise).

BTW, did you know that one is supposed to hold iPhone almost an inch from the ear or otherwise the RF radiation dose to the head exceeds federal standards? of course apple put it in fine print that no one reads.

low levels should be harmless, but i would not seat next to an antenna for a long time.

giving young kids phones and tablets to play is a dumb idea, IMHO. a lot of parents do that.

I found FJacek's comments about proximity interesting,

Also, I realized that my employer, after years of "gently encouraging me" has just a few months ago insist that I carry a cell phone around.

It has been in my pants pocket for the last five or so months, nearly 14/15 hours per days, even weekends, usually.

The last month or so, I noticed small sores, nothing I really worried about, on my upper thigh. They would be in the same general area that my cell phone sits in my pocket....of course it could be from the lap dances at a club in Vancouver that another P/C member recommended.....:p

Just did a quick google. did not have time to really look into this, but seems to be (and I did not check many of them out) a fair number of hits about phones causing leg issues.

Here's the link to the only one I actually read -- and it seems pretty poor -- no real citations or anything, but it makes you -- or at least me -- think....

And, I think I will remove the phone from my pocket.

the problem is, anything is possible. but without accurate studies, we'll never know, and you get a lot tin foil hat accusations.

Hmm, when using the pc my head's about 2 feet from the wifi router. Maybe I should do something about that.

Most parents put the phablets into airplane mode before giving them to their crumb-snatchers.

    Me?
    I use headphones.
The idea that RFI is dangerous for beans isn't new.
There have even been [redacted] people who claim that hybrids cause health issues.

I guess where I come down on this is that cell phones ARE dangerous.
Distracted driving (TWD/BWD) is worse than driving intoxicated, simply because at least drunks have the excuse of having impaired higher brain function.

Diving cell phone users just don't give a rats.

    RFI?
    Gimme a break....

i see. you're "unbiased" as you work for a telecom.

Yeah, but I'm not on that end of the biz.
    Typical hyperbolic argument.

    1. I work most with Layer1/Layer2 type stuff. I could give a toss what flavor cell phone people use, and as a matter of fact telecommunications is much more incestuous than you're probably aware.
    2. Cell phones are actually bad for me personally, and not just because I might get turned into an organ donor by a texter, so if I were biased if would work the other way.

Do you want to know Big Red's largest and most valuable customer is?
    That's right!
    US!
    Their competitor.
    Same with us for them.
Back in the Mesozoic era when print media was still relevant, they used to have behind-the-scene agreements to share print resources and other assets to prevent unforeseen disasters (like labor unions) from crippling one of the players.
As rough and tumble as the airline industry is, they have similar agreements.

    So......
Glass (fiber optics) really is bad for you because it represents a possible skin/eye hazard when the fiber is broken, and you certainly don't ever want to look into an unterminated fiber-optic cable(*) but RFI?

    Gimme a break.

(*) A typical human eye will respond to wavelengths from about 380-700 nanometers (430-770Thz.)
Most telecommunications LASERS operate in the 850-1300-1550 nanometer range so there's really nothing to see......and if you look down the wrong fiber enough then there will REALLY be nothing to see! ;)

If there is one thing I know, it's that everything is bad for you. Starting from my earliest memories, eggs were bad for you. Then Chinese food. Mercury is bad for your fillings. Caffeine is bad for you. Fish is bad for you. Recently, apples are bad for you due to arsenic. Cured meats are bad for you. I'm putting my bets on polyester being bad next.

i have considered holding the phone near your head all day a bad idea since the controversy started years ago. some things are easy to avoid. no one has any regrets until they're going to the hospital for treatment.

"At the end of the 2-year study, survival was lower in the control group of males than in all groups of male rats exposed to GSM-modulated RFR. Survival was also slightly lower in control females than in females exposed to 1.5 or 6 W/kg GSM-modulated RFR."

That is quoted from the actual study. There was an increase in lesions for the exposed rats, but most were formed near end of life. These rats were living in special reverberation chambers so that they could receive a heavy dose of the RF to their whole body. The earlists forming lesions were in the heart. More work is needed to see how and if the results with these rats relates to people.

Eggs and caffeine are making a resurgence while margarine, Teflon, and diet soda were actually bad to begin with.
