Considering a 2016, few questions vs Gen 3

    That's correct there's no sunglasses compartment. I usually keep mine in its case anyway because I have prescription sunglasses. They're expensive and I don't want them scratched.

    I guess if you have a sun roof... you would need to be wearing your sunglasses! :cool:

    I thought these flakes on car paint were just drops of water, until I saw the last of the above photos! Wow! Should look really great under the sun! Is this the case with other prius colours too?

    The paint looks way better in a live view in the full sun because the metallic flakes sparkle!

    I have only looked at the Blizzard pearl closely, and it does the same thing. Don't know about the other colors. The paint job is very beautiful.

    Yes. Every color I've seen in person looks even better. My Metallic Grey has metallic flakes that sparkle (y) (they don't show well in photos).

    Black - has small blue (cool looking) metallic flakes that sparkle as well!

    I thought that both the Li-Ion and the NiMH have the same exact power output and delivery - the only difference is weight. Can anyone elaborate on this?

    As for the manuals, a comment from my side - the EU version of the Gen3 came with a hefty 500+ pages of user's manual.
    I have looked it up like 5 times, in 6 years, to change light bulbs. For the Gen4 I will take the PDF and have a copy on my mobile phone as suggest and print out the pages that talk about how to repair a flat tire with the kit (no spare tire in EU to my knowledge) and how to change the only changeable non LED lights, if relevant.
    Everything else, I shed the weight - after reading and seeing on my test, the less space, I started analysing critically what I am carrying around in the glove compartment and in the trunk under its floor, and well, I can really stop carrying around so much junk I *never* used in 6 years...
    As for the comment from soldieguy about the center console, I had the same feeling that if you take a sharp turn, objects might fall out since the sides are very smooth and not as straight as in Gen3 - only when I get my Gen4 I will be able to judge, but good to hear it seem more an impression than a real "problem".

    Supposedly, yes. I mention Li-Ion explicitly for future reference in case someone is looking for a used Gen 4 in a couple of years or a new owner is trying to figure things out. The battery operates differently from what we know from the Gen 2 and Gen 3. If you had a Gen 2, the Gen 3 operated the way you expected it. I suspect the Gen 4 NiMH will operate the same way too. The Li-Ion battery version seems to be more willing to let SOC vary. It has no problem using battery power and I suspect it's because it's more readily accepts charge too. Easy to top up, therefore why not use it to boost mpg.

    But again, the capacity is the same so it's not like you can rely on battery power for longer than the NiMH version.

    I understand what you say, but then it means that the NiMH versions will consume more as they will not be able to go into EV gliding mode more often than Gen3 and will only rely on the fact that they hold 20% more capacity...?

    When I see the specs in the New Car Features Manual:

    I work out a power capacity around 1310 Whr for the NiMH, 746 Whr for the Li-ion (hey, almost exactly one horsepower-hour!). When you say the capacity is the same, is that because the NiMH controller will never use more than 700-some Whr out of the NiMH battery, whereas the Li-ion controller is willing to use more like all of the capacity? Or is there something else I'm missing?

    Potentially? I need to drive a NiMH version to be sure, or wait until you get yours and see if you think it performs the same as the Gen 3 (i.e. the way the battery assists in EV Mode and so forth).

    However, there's also the risk of having to charge up the Li-Ion battery more often if you don't regen often enough.

    Yeah the Li-Ion battery will be allowed to use a greater range of its true capacity while the NiMH will be using a much smaller range of its true capacity. I can't remember the % but as an example, 40% of 1.31kWhr is about the same as 70% of 746Whr.
