I'd imagine Toyota will price the Prime higher than the regular Prius, to differentiate it from the non-plug in version, take advantage of the tax credit for plug-in vehicles, and factoring in the higher cost of the bigger battery. I think it'll get roughly $4k in tax credits due to the size of the battery, which is roughly what the Ford plug-ins get.

I'd estimate the base Prime trim will be $33k, and the advanced trim will be closer to $38k.

Though at those prices, people will definitely comparison shop it with the Gen 2 Volt. If they don't need the larger cargo room, higher mpg for longer commutes, or want the Toyota brand, they may very well get the Volt instead.

People were already comparing the PiP to the Volt1 even though the PiP started much lower. The issue was that the PiPA was compared to a base Volt1 and folks would rather pass on the fancy tech on the PiP for the longer range.

However, it depends on how far this market has gone. It's clear that Toyota isn't going for the evangelists because they would either have a Volt or a BEV. I think Toyota is trying to market the Prime to the masses. A more conservative look (and it seems to have gotten better reception than the Liftback) and cool tech (like the 11.6" HD screen, Too bad the solar roof isn't coming). If it's priced right, it may steal some sales from those that are on the fence (like those that bought a HCH over a Prius because it was cheaper)
