Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus - MPG hit?

    Has anyone else tried this tire on a 3rd gen Prius? After 60k miles the OE Goodyear Assurance tires were pretty threadbare, so I took advantage of Bridgestone's rebate and got a set of four new EP422's mounted.

    The tires are softer, which I actually don't mind as this is my commuter car (90 miles / day round trip) and it softens the harsh ride up a little, but my MPG has taken a HUGE hit.

    Normally around this time of year I average upper 50s, and frequently break 60 mpg on my work route. Now it's more like upper 40s, and one time I cracked 50; 50.6 mpg, to be exact.

    Will this improve with time? Although I've had the car since new (nearly 4 years now) this is my first new set of tires on my first Prius, so not sure what to expect.

    Yes it will improve, give it at least 500 miles.
    Is your tire pressure up to where you ran your old tires?

    I think Costco did it right to the sticker. I usually ran 3-5 psi high. Not a huge difference...

    No its not a huge difference; but it might be enough to contribute to the worse mileage.

    Although I can't speak for the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max, I know the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus has given me better mileage than the Yokohama Avid S33D and Bridgestone Ecopia EP20.

    I have the EP422 Plus. I did not notice any MPG difference compared to the previous (OEM) tires, EP20.

    Well, I don't necessarily see an improvement (over the original GYs), but after a month and over a thousand miles I am back to the mileage I used to get for this time of year. My drive in this morning was 60.5 mpg - perfectly satisfactory.

    I wonder if it's the mold release compound, new-ish tread, or what that so heavily kills mileage when new tires are installed.

    I noticed, with my stock EP20s that I got an approximately 2mpg increase and radically improved cornering once they broke in, around the 500 mile mark.

    I just got these on my 2011 Prius III. It was pretty sweet deal 328 out of the door at costco. I do see a hit in mileage I was getting around 56 to 58 on the worn out Yoko S33 (lasted only 38.5K miles).

    422+ are still new only 70 miles so far. Costco also put tire pressure as per toyota (35/33). I was running my Yoko at (41/39). Did argue with the installation guy but he won't budge and given me good gyan on why recommended pressure is best.

    Going today to get lug nuts checked (routine after 25 miles), might get it upped if some other guy is there.

    you need to be able to check and adjust your own tyres pressure. or can you swing by costco anytime for a freebie?

    I have put almost 20,000 miles on my first set of the 422+. No mpg loss and WAY better than the stock Toyo's!

    They are as quiet as or as loud as the OEM equipped Yokohama s33.

    I can but costco puts nitrogen in the tires. So do not want to mix air with nitrogen even though 75% air is nitrogen

    I'm getting these put on my PiP at Costco in a few days. I took advantage of the $70 Bridgestone rebate plus $60 off executive members. I'm happy with $320 OTD for tires.

    Thought about it for my daughters Civic but the lower winter snow/ice traction ratings always scare me off. Wish Costco had some lower price tires other than 422's.

    They are quieter than the Toyo's, but the car does transmit a lot of road noise, due to the lack of sound deadening...
