I Have a nice 2016 white Prius. This car saves me lots of gas its very comfortable aswell i use it as my daily car. Only thing i notice i have a Check Engine light ON already and it only has less then 3K miles . I will plug up a OBD to see what is my first issue with this car.

    I forgot to ask earlier...

Being a brand new car, and never having owned a Prius before, I've been checking the oil level every couple of weeks. For those of you that have driven 10,000+, has anybody needed to add any oil? How have the previous generations of Prii done? Any history of burning oil?

I'm a couple days shy of 2 months of ownership, and I'll pass 10,000 miles this coming weekend. So far so good...just a couple small rattles/buzzes that have been taken care of with foam tape. No oil usage at all.

Did you ever find out what caused the Check Engine
Good to hear another Prius about to pass the 10,000 mole mark. And the no oil usage even better. Thanks for letting us know.

I'm not sure about that. Mostly scare tactics fostered by the dealership. You have the right to do your own basic maintenance. Keep solid records and all receipts, and by all means keep in touch with the dealership service department as well.

One compromise: buy your supplies through their parts dept and be "registered", typically via a phone number, so they know what you bought and when.

Our 2010 has around 61,000 km, and so far no drop in the oil level between changes, albeit fairly frequent changes. First Toyota for us, all the previous Honda vehicles had minor oil consumption, typically between a cup and a pint, from one oil change to the next.

For out of warranty work (such as hybrid battery failures on gen 2s), I get the sense (from reading comments here) they give financial assistance to those with a long history of taking it to the dealerships, whereas say sorry to those who didn't and require them to pay full amount for out of warranty repairs.

Congrats on having the Prius as your first new car! It's great to see other younger people buying Prius's.

I feel California makes long commutes feel natural. A 90 mile commute jumps up to 110-120 miles once you start running errands or going out to visit people/places after work, at which point you are happy to have only spent 2 or so gallons instead of a lot more money on gas thanks to having a Prius.

Just make sure you change your own cabin air filter and engine air filter when you get to 30k miles (get the part number and purchase it off of Amazon). It will save you $100 in simple labor as opposed to taking it to the dealership (then the 30k price just becomes the normal oil change price instead of a sticker shock).

I have 15,440, so far the only thing negative appears to be that the MFD re-boots itself when starting up, thereby removing my personal settings. The car says lifetime gas average is 52.9. It lies. Per my calc. it is either 51.1 or 50.9, plus or minus. Love the car.

It's 10,000 miles or yearly in the 'States.

My 2010 says 8,000 km (~5,000 miles) or 6 months. I'm also retired, putting the km's on very slowly, and doing DIY oil changes spring and fall. Very likely overkill, but cheap-as-dirt to do, and keeps me off the streets. :)
