Bought my first Prius

    Some items that make a difference:

    Tire pressure needs to be higher than the door jam
    Excess Speed
    Weight
    Heavy Rain
    Jack rabbit driving (drive with an egg under your right foot:LOL: and use eco mode)
    AC on max with max fan (use recirculate)/try low fan if possible
    experience road rage at least once on a commute
    Don't flip off big 4X4 trucks and SUVs as they can hurt you bad

    Oh yea I put it in eco mode before I left the dealer and hasn't come off. Also been trying to let it coast whenever possible to use the regen to keep some juice in the battery. I'm like a ninja too on that ev mode button whenever I can use that! I keep the climate control in eco and auto as well. I'm very hot natured but I've found that 76 works fine it just takes a couple mins to cool off but fine once it's there.

    I literally hit a driveway pulling into a parking lot yesterday. There is no front ground clearance from the front bumper. Now, it's all scraped up, but you can't notice it unless you kneel down.

    The touring is a little stiffer to me and doesn't seem to drag like the Gen 3 standard.

    IMO, the blue is the sharpest looking color available for the 2016 model year. Of course everyone has different likes and dislikes. YMMV

    Is the touring actually raised because of the larger wheels? The standard wheels like I have have fat tires and small wheels. I thought the tires would have raised the car a bit. The touring should be lower to help the sportier lower center of gravity, which helps handling.

    I let my other half choose the colour as I got my way with the Yaris, so we've gone for the dark grey with black interior.

    The dark grey and pearl white are very nice and definitely show the lines of the car well but I'm a sucker for a beautiful blue as you can tell by my previous vehicle. IMG_20160423_140917.jpg

    That Jeep would be a fun 2nd vehicle to have.

    I going to make some people mad with this next comment (or they think I need a lobotomy :ROFLMAO:) but I found that I get the best gas mileage when I drive my Prius in the PWR mode. The car feels more responsive, quicker, and easier to drive.

    I waited until the car was broke-in (3,000 miles) and then I drove one full tank of gas in Eco, and another tank in Normal, and then a 3rd tank PWR mode. I get a constant 62 or 63 mpg in PWR mode. And using the AC at 65 degrees everyday. I'll never go back to the other drive modes. Nothing against Eco, but my car just feels too sluggish.

    I want to have a little fun in my Prius, AND enjoy the great gas mileage. I found a nice way to do both. (And 63 mpg is plenty. Unbelievable. :))

    I have a 2004 wrangler is nice to drive everyone let you pass and a few people cut you off in traffic. For the beach is cool. But With my Gen 4 Eco two it does not happen. I will try Power Mode next month. I am getting 65 mpg with Eco Mode..

    There are quite a few articles in PriusChat - search for "HYPERMILING". There was also a series of articles earlier this year on "WHAT DRIVES US" where Tony Schaefer talks about HYPERMILING and other fuel saving techniques:

    Reading them, I realise that I was on the same track in a lot of my techniques with my previous 2 diesel cars. I'm still trying to apply them to my new Prius - every trip seems to be a little better.

    But the other thing to keep in mind that driving enjoyment may go a little outside of the HYPERMILING bubble - eg Cruise Control and RADAR Cruise don't obey the Hypermiling rules strictly, but are just great to use to take the pressure off heavy motorway driving.

    With these videos, hopefully you can get an idea of how they drive to maximise mpg. Listen to what they say on how they approach different scenarios (like exiting a highway or driving on a two-lane country road, how to approach traffic lights/stop signs and most importantly, how to manage all of that with the traffic around you). The best of course is if you can apply these techniques with the flow of traffic so that the other motorists are none-the-wiser that you're hypermiling. Safety first so don't hold up traffic cause then the net (social) result is more fuel usage since other people have to brake then accelerate to go around you.

    Informative videos. Probably more suited to those people who live in urban areas? I find that Hyper-mile techniques are much more difficult in my city-driving scenarios, with higher speeds and heavy traffic. But that's just me. I admit, I rarely have the patience for it. However I do use the "glide" technique when possible.

    In the Gen4 video, he only drove 10 miles. With all due respect, I don't see what meaningful purpose that serves. A much better and truer indication of your MPG, is to drive through a full tank of gas. Then calculate.
    I see no point in checking the gas mileage during, or after little short trips. I guess I'm a rebel (without a cause.) :ROFLMAO:

    ~Lobotomy Another thing I noticed in my car, is the "From the Flag" mpg numbers are always much higher than the "Trip A" mpg numbers. (Misinformation?) I don't claim to understand everything, but I just leave my ODO set on Trip A, and I think that gives me a truer indicator of the real, overall, full-tank mpg.     I will! Where is that guy?! :LOL: We want full tank realistic mpg reports. :) Anybody can get 88 mpg, driving only 10 miles on a deserted road... at 14 miles per hour? :ROFLMAO:

    I actually got 129 mpg when I did that. No kidding. He needs more practice. :D

    Actually I think the front end is higher than Gen3, i.e. the plastic of the bumper is not so low as in Gen3, even if the car itself is a tick lower from the ground - I should have measured it for the difference...!
