battery's are expensive to replace. the good news is that they have proven to last a long time, and as time goes by, they get cheaper.

    Give this a try:

The zip file has an OpenSource spreadsheet:
    1. Input
      1. Local electrical cost in currency per kWh
      2. Local fuel cost in currency per unit
      3. Type of fuel; typical units; typical distance
      4. EV distance per kWh
    2. Output
      1. break-even for target vehicle
The second setup is for European style metrics.

It works for gasoline, diesel, propane, e.t.c.

I think a plug-in makes sense if you can have access to renewable electric energy. From an environmental perspective though. And if it comes for freem from your roof.

At 0.25€c/kWh here in Munich, surely all coming from renewable, it makes no business sense at all, considering also the purchase price compared to a regular Prius. Not to mention that the Gen4 reports that I am driving on average (since June) 54% of the time electric. It's almost like a EV with range extender...almost - so from an environmental point of view, I don't feel guilty at all... :D

I think I am with you...but is that politically correct for USA?
Will be different attitudes, national values, politics, and economics in other regions.
With incentives plug-ins can be cheaper here I think.

    Woa Hoss! (*)

I put the spreadsheet for insights, not guilt or anything else. Knowing is better than guessing so please use the spreadsheet for fun.

Now if you happen it have an 'oil burner' (aka., diesel advocate), you might have some fun. Like I do when I see one on the streets of Huntsville and I'm in my i3-REx. <GRINS>

I like that statement. My Prius is an EV with a range extender. (y)
