    Hi there,

I'm a new owner of a Prius 2012 (used) that has 83000Km on the counter. Red and very well equipped, at least, enough for me, more than what I was looking for in a used vehicle! I am in Canada.

I've been reading the manuals for the last few days and I go from one discovery to another. This car is so jammed packed with gadgets and cool stuff that I wonder when I'll have learned everything about it!

So far I love this car, very nice look and the entertainment system is on par with what I would expect from a car these days.

Thank you! I'm not sure why you find the color appealing to you! hahaha :)

The color was not my choice really, it was what was in the parking of the used car dealer. But I admit, it is a very nice looking color!

Oh, that's cool! It is an amazing car. I'm not really proud of the fact that I lost my previous car in a car accident (Pontiac Vibe), but when I see that I got this amazing replacement in front of my house, I couldn't have found any better!

Thank you, and you're right, amazing car! Since I got it last week, I went in the car a few times just to play and discover the functions in it after reading the manual a few more chapters. Just totally amazing :)

I have had my Gen 3 Prius for over 6 years and am still learning new things about it. An interesting car for a (rather old) geek like me.

Welcome to PriusChat! Congrats on your purchase! Hopefully you will learn a lot on this site (The Gen 3 forum and the Knowledge Base section has some good threads). Or else, just ask!

Just remember if you are searching for information that there were two types of headunits that were offered for the 2012 Prius - a 6.1" Display Audio System (with or without navigation). The graphics look similar to a Garmin handheld navigation unit. The second is a 7" high resolution system with navigation that has a hard-drive based navigation and has DVD playback (not that anyone watches DVDs any more).

If you don't have navigation, then it's easy, it's the 6.1" version.
If you have navigation, then if you have to press "APPS" to find it, it's the 6.1" screen. If it defaults to the map screen, it's the 7".

The reason I mention it is that there are different complaints and features between the two. Other than that, the functionality is the same between most models in Canada.

Thank you for the information, that's what I have.

I posted a thread in the audio forum about Entune, but will look at the knowledge section to see if my questions are discussed there. I updated it to 5.1.0 yesterday.

I also need to contact a local dealer for the AirBag recall and just to have my car registered at a dealer for future recall or who knows what!

I need to find out how much it is to update the maps of the GPS. I do understand that it is not something we can do without a dealer, sadly...

    Ahh ok.

Entune isn't available in Canada, so all the Entune features such as weather, traffic, stocks, fuel prices, scores are not available, as well as Pandora, Spotify, Bing Search, OpenTable, Facebook Places, Yelp, iheartradio and Movietickets.com.

Good idea. I just got my "heads-up" letter in the mail.

Yes. I've updated once and it's a bit pricey.

Too bad for Entune. Probably not that I need everything it can do, but I guess from time to time it could be useful. As a geek, the more I can get from any technology, I take it :)

I was hoping to get my next car with Apple's CarPlay embedded, but the Prius so far is close to it anyway.

I checked with my local dealer, and the Air Bag recall has been done in 2014, and no new recall on it. I registered with them in their system for future recall if any.

As for the nav system, the dealer told me that within the region I live, where some smaller cities were merged together into a bigger one, the maps they can offer at the moment does not include the new streets name. So no need to rush anything at that point, especially if it is very pricey.

That said, I was surfing the web in search of more informations and details on the new car and found this:

    Toyota Map Updates

Maybe I do not understand everything, but it looks like if some cars have a Micro SD slot for the maps (starting from 2012, previously was CD/DVD based) and that Garmin may be the maps source for Toyota. And based on that site, it looks like if we could upgrade the maps ourselves using the provided software.

That said, I look in the owner manual, the Internet, and (obviously) the car itself, and could not find anywhere where a Micro SD card slot for my Prius 2012 could be. I have no clue where they hidden it, if there is any in fact, but I wonder if anyone saw this before and can comments on what it is exactly.

    Thank you

The MicroSD is found on other models such as the 2015 Prius v, 2015 Prius c, 2014 Corolla etc.

OK, I read an article (can't find it anymore) saying that one nav system in the 2012 was HDD based, and the other was flash based, but it does not mean it is a Micro SD card, could a fixed storage in the HU.

Yes, the 7" Display Audio system is HDD-based for the 2012-2015 Prius Liftback. The 6.1" Display Audio is flash-based. They're updated via a USB stick at the dealer.
