I have a 2007 prius 218k miles and still getting 44mpg!!!!! - was fortunate to pick it up for $2000 due to some cosmetic front end damage. Thankfully no fluid leaks or mechanical damage - was backed into by a semi while parked. Have banged out the fender and hood and patched the bumper with zip ties - the only thing left is the headlight assembly which was completely trashed. HID assembly was $200 + with working components or $60 empty - same for halogen.

Im on an extremely limited budget - every post i've read about switching from HID to halogen is people trying to push sticking with HID and methods to do it cheaper - still would cross the $200 threshold with a new lens/housing - I really can't afford to do this.

car was $2k and another 200 to register/taxes. adding another 10% to the cost of the car just isn't feasible - I'm strapped as it is.

I spent 60 for the halogen housing - 5 bucks for a bulb and 5 bucks for the ceramic socket to plug it into. I just need some help with wiring this in. can someone please help me without trying to sell me on spending more money to go back to HID? i just can't afford to and at this point I'm seriously considering buying a very bright LED side marker bulb for 5 bucks and shoving that in the spot for the headlight to avoid getting pulled over. The Other HID works fine as do the foglights - driving at night i don't suffer from any visibility problems i just need lights on both sides to keep from getting pulled over.

Can someone please help? I just need to know which 3 wires to splice into with the H4 socket so I have a working headlight. Thanks for any replies/assistance

Thanks for the suggestion - I actually have a wiring diagram for the whole car (attached) but Ive been through it and i can't make heads or tales of it. Was more hoping for someone who has experience with which wires in the 4+ connectors that are available are the ones I need - I would think there has to be a 12 volt + and a ground and thats what i need but i don't know whats what down there.

The halogen can be wired in just like the HID. The 3 wires are for 1 - Ground, 2 - Normal Lights on +, 3 - Brights +. Without having a wiring diagram, you can use a voltmeter to determine which of the 3 each wire is, by connecting to different wires and turning headlights and brights on and seeing which wires show voltage and the polarity. If you don't have a voltmeter the same can be done with any 12v bulb (whatever two wires don't turn on the bulb when lights or brights are on are + wires, the other wire is -, then determine which + goes with lights or bights by further testing). Just be extra careful to not allow any + wire to come in contact with the chassis or - wire or you'll blow a fuse (I'd twist wires and protect them with electric tape between testing. IIRC, the black wire on both sides is ground, and then the colors of the other wires is different on both sides of the vehicle (my Prius has standard halogens though - could be different for HIDs).

Edit: I'm confused - The H4 connectors I know of only have 3 wires. I'm understanding there's a different connector there with 4+ wires? It still might easiest to use a voltmeter with one end connected to the vehicle ground and see which wires go + when lights and brights are turned on.

There is a triangular shape connector that it looks like its for the leveling motor - then there are two other connectors - none of which has a black wire - all four colors are different - this is where i'm stumped.

Looking at the wiring diagrams I think I've figured it out. An important note looking at pages 144-146 is this that only things and wires with "* 3" exist for your car (See key page 145). Look at what connects to the "Headlight Assembly" on page 144 and 145 (these are the largest blue boxes on these two pages - these should be your lights). The two lights shown on page 145 do not exist for your car due to it having HID.

On the right hand side (connecting to Headlight Assembly (headlight control ECU) - this is where you want to tap power from):
    low beam +: blue wire
    high beam +: purple wire
    ground: white wire black stripe

On the left hand side (connecting to Headlight Assembly - this is where you want to tap power from):
    low beam +: pink wire
    high beam +: orange wire
    ground: white wire black stripe

Does this make any sense? Do the multiple connectors tie back to a box? If so, that would be the headlight control ECU where you'd want to tap into.

I think thats it!!! thats - i only tried to low beam and the bulb lit up when i turned on the headlight switch so now i just need to buy the harness for an H4 bulb - was worried since they were for HID they wouldn't work for a halogen but seemed to just fine - thanks for the help!
